The equipment was faulty, according to the US Coast Guard.

That's a pretty scary discovery that really puts doubt in Carnival's training procedures. The fact that the equipment completely failed may not have been preventable as I doubt they test that equipment (if they do it's probably during dry dock which I don't think she has had since she's so new) since it can be dangerous. The fact that the equipment and manual were all wrong though should have been known. Even if the equipment is not used the required fire training and other safety drills should have included the procedures for properly using the equipment. If the training sessions on the Splendor didn't turn up the issues i doubt any of the other CCL ships would have found it. I hope other lines do a much better job.

Good to hear. Are these systems normally tested on a regular basis? They seem like due to their dangerous effects they would rarely be tested.

You can test most parts of the system without releasing the gas. When we test the equipment in the server room where I work they disconnect the trigger from the tank that way you can watch it activate without doing an actual release

Cruise ship 'Parked'?? I heard on the news yesterday that she was ready to depart (on her own power) for San Francisico and final repairs. Spendor is apparently scheduled to resume service in mid-February.

Reminds me of when the Caribia ex Caronia was in New York in the 1970s. She so overstayed her welcome that she ended up getting a parking ticket from the City of New York for illegally anchoring in between two of the unused West Side piers.
