The FUNCHAL is in Lisbon and stay at the yards for SOLAS 2010 upgrades until August 2011.

My company has chartered the ARION during October and the captain told me that he heard that the FUNCHAL is to be chartered by Metropolis Tur in 2011, but finally after the bankruptcy of Hansa Kreuzfahrten, they took the PRINCESS DAPHNE, so the FUNCHAL remains longer in renovations and should then go on cruises departing from Lisbon in autumn.

But I don't know how she will enter service in only 15 days. Her's refit looks like away from ending, as we can see in this recent photos.

I wonder if most of the interior work has been completed such as removing the interior woodwork onboard as well as installing new cabins and bringing her up to the latest SOLAS requirements. I read that she will also have her hull painted black (as she had when new) and have a larger logo attached to the funnel.

Metrpolis Tur announced last week that the 2012 summer cruises with Funchal have been cancelled. The reason is said to be the ongoing renovation of Funchal, that is not going to be finished on time. The financial crises in Portugal seem to have affected also CIC and it may be that the money has run out?

Lets hope this is not the first sign of CIC going under.

The man who owned this operation recently passed away. Afraid it could put the whole firm in jeopardy.

Yes, Mr. Potamianos, owner of Funchal and CIC passed away some days ago, and one friend from Lisbon told me that the works on the ship stopped some months ago for lack of money.

He said too that who will assume the company are the sons of Mr. Potamianos. This makes me remember Peter Deilmann...

I hope she does not end up like the former Pacific Princess which apparently will be scrapped w/a refit half completed.

You may be right lasuvidaboy - it appears a further 6m euro is needed to complete the refit. I cannot see anyone investing that sort of money in her I'm afraid.
