Hello everybody

Louis has sold their Aquamarine to an unknown Mexican company. The ship was renamed "Ocean Star Pacific" yesterday in Piraeus, and reflagged in Panama.

This information is confirmed on the Louis Group's website.

Darn, I was going to cruise on that ship this summer! That was my first cruise contract out of New York when she was the Nordic Prince.

I did my first 7 night cruise on this ship in 2002. At that time she was named "Carousel".
Great ship, great cruise around Canary Islands and Madeira.

Best regards
René.

Louis Cruises seem to have done very well getting just over US $ 23 million for Aquamarine.

Her sister ship, the Long Jie, which operates as a casino ship is for sale at only US $ 15 million !

Admitted Long Jie was not lengthened, like the Aquamarine, but she does retain her cabins plus has her funnel lounge still.

Aquamarine already has her new name painted on her stern with Panama showing as her port of registration.

What do you think is going on ?

And keep in mind that Royal sold the Sun Viking in the late 1990s to Star for $30 million, I read on the CIN site a few weeks ago.

Louis should be happy..

The sale of Aquamarine has made Louis to change plans for the summer season. From the beginning the plan was to operate with the Aquamarine 14.3.-11.11.2011 and also Orient Queen 16.5.-21.10.2011 on the 3- and 4-night cruises out of Piraeus.

Now Louis will instead have the Louis Majesty cruising out of Piraeus for 3- and 4-night cruises 1.4.-4.11.2011. Orient Queen will instead operate the itinary Louis Majesty would have been doing during this time. Cristal will operate her scheaduled 7-night cruises as planned, but will in march and november do the 3- and 4-night cruises that the company was planning to do with Aquamarine.

The Calypso will during the summer season also be deployed seasonally for the 3- and 4-night cruises out of Piraeus.

This all according

I note that the new itineraries are all-domestic, which makes me wonder: is the (former) AQUAMARINE not SOLAS 2010 compliant?

Her itineraries are 3,4, and 7-nights long; they cannot go very far from Acapulco without doing longer cruises, 10-14 nights. If they're trying to test and create a cruise market for Mexicans, it makes sense to start with smaller cruises, just to get people exposed to it without investing a lot of time and money.

The Mexicans with deeper pockets and are better-travelled (and there are lots of them) already fly to Miami or Europe to do more extensive cruises.
