I found the comments at the bottom of the photos to be pretty funny and, in a few cases, annoying.
Someone actually said the interiors of the original Queens Mary & Elizabeth were "cutting edge."
Hardly.

This foam plastic pallazzo of the wrong architectural orders does not belong in a high end ship. This is allegedly for the urbane and cosmopolitan Grille class?

Absolutely. For me it's not only very tacky but also superficial and shallow. At a first glance it looks pretty much like Farcus decor only that it's meant seriously.
My feeling is that this decor also won't age too well. Maybe they will refit her some when with a 'modern' looking interior making her going through the same phases like the decor of QE2 only in the opposite order.
Actually, wouldn't it be a good idea to build another Cunard ship like that for the Asian market? This over the top 'retro' decor is very popular in Asia and I am sure that the brand Cunard would sell well too. At least at this time Cunard would of course need a dedicated vessel for Asia to accommodate the different needs of their present audience and a predominately Asian audience but I guess there is actually quite some potential form Cunard to grow in this direction.
Seriously, it's exactly what many of the Grill passengers on Cunard are enamored with, and willing to pay out the a-- for!

Queen Mary 2 has none of this kitsch.
If I want to look at classic architecture and had Grille class money, there is a few weeks in the great European cities with the real thing and locally grown food and the locals. On a ship, I want it to look like a ship with steel, brass, and teak. Mostly a view of the sea. The sappy courtyard is hidden from the ocean. The Voyager class and NCL Dawn class have such hideosities, but they are mass market ships.
Ernie, you have just confirmed to me again, that money, intellect, and class are 3 different things.

Reminds me a little of ss France's courtyard but on a much 'grander' scale. This space could have been so much more attractive while keeping the faux classically inspired architecture in check. Moderation is key w/that!

The Patio Provençale was just a modest outdoor patio with French rustic decor. It never approached anything remotely this surreal before.
I can handle Cunard doing a Vista-class cruiser in a "liner" livery. I can handle Cunard doing a Vista-class cruiser in a funky "Project Lifestyle" blue livery with racing stripe decals, lions, and grimy gold boot topping. I don't know if I can handle the amount of alcohol needed to ironically enjoy something as big and stupid as that wedding cake thing.
I do see some improvements over QV.
1. The Book Shop is much larger. Looks more like the one on QM2.Bookshop
2. There are drawers in the nightstands!Nightstand Drawers
3. iMac's are used in Connexions (I'm impressed!)Connexions
4. I really like the Verandah Restaurant. In the renderings it's looked completely awful, but in it's final form I think it looks pretty good. Much better than Todd English on QV.The Verandah
Also, the chairs used in The Verandah and very similar to my own dining room chairs, so of course I have to like it! LOL

Drawers in nightstand aboard passenger ships are not unusual at all. This also does not depend on the shipyard since they (or a subcontractor) build what the customer orders.

One of the big issues with QV was the lack of sufficient drawer space. I think there were two drawers in the entire cabin, and both were not usable. Likewise with the bathroom which included two small shelves. Very unusual for a ship built to undertake World cruises. It was an embarrassing oversight. I think Cunard made a conscious effort to ensure the same did not occur with QE, although I hear her drawer space is still a bit spartan.
Attached are two pics of my QV cabin.
It actually looks like all of the furniture, light fittings and water feature could be picked up in B&Q. Rest of the ship looks nice if somewhat beige.

That's why I wrote that QEs is a much GRANDER space. Regardless, both are/were pretty bad.

How about some new carpet and flat panel TV's as well for QM2. I love the ship, but the cabins are starting to look a bit shabby. Not fitting for the flagship of Cunard!
I expect sagging mattresses on REGAL EMPRESS, but not on QM2.
