I've also updated her area on my site: http://chriscunard.com/about-QE.htm to include a new video from Alistair Greener.
As for 'unique decor' the public rooms in the renderings still look remarkably similar to the Queen Vic's, even if they have changed the carpet.

Maybe the low profile is because painting the ship in Cunard colors is still not finished?

.. but how much criticism did they come under at the time when they were first launched?
In 40 years time, when the next QE is launched [or maybe 20, will a Vista last 40? ] people will probably be saying how beautiful the Vista versions were.
She looks fine to me.
Greetings Ben.

No, but the Cunard brand is supposed to be a cut above the rest and it can't all be down to the interior. It's another Lego ship.

Thanks Michael, it's a strange structure that is out of line with the rather good looks of this class of ships....... Indeed wait and see.

I seriously doubt that. The quality of design took a step down in the 1970s w/cost cutting. I'll use automobiles as an example. Here in the states many car collector events won't allow cars produced after 1975. That was the 'magic year' that cars were no longer considered worthy of classic/collectable status. I may not agree w/that completely but many organizations stick to it.
The last 'classic' passenger ship built was most likley Vistafjord and today she is considered by many among the last of the sleek beauties-even w/alterations to her upper decks. The mass-produced boxes of today may become beloved by some (hey, there are people who think a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord are beautiful) but I (and apparently others) no longer have the passion we had for ships that we had 10-15 years ago. I don't swoon over say a 2010 Nissan or most modern boxboats . When the QV made her maiden L.A. visit a few years ago. I did'nt even bother making the trip down to see her as I had done many times over the years to see QE2, Rotterdam V and even the lovely Disney ship. Why bother, I saw plenty of Vistas models anchored in Mexico a few week prior.

With that beefed-up stern and structure over the bridge, it may be difficult. A lovely (or even decent) design can of course be completely ruined when tinkered with slightly. God is in the details and if those are'nt correct, you can have a mess on your hands.

I would have been fine w/a QV copy. That ship (though no true beauty) is decent looking. Exterior design is'nt important to many people (look around and see what people drive, wear and live in). Attractive well-proportioned design cost more $$$ and most cruise lines simply don't want to spend the money on it today.

Exactly. The average person won't even notice that but it does give her a slight NCL Epic look forward. It called designing from the inside-out.
It'll be alright. I am sure a year from now we will have forgotten all about this 'debate' and will be laying praise and accolades on the new Disney Dream. Then all of our ship design buffs will have something to swoon over again...

Some of us appreciate proper proportions and good design.
There's a great scene in 'The Devil Wears Prada' that sums up an appreciation of good design-in fashion. In it, Miranda attempts to explain (and educate) her new employee Andrea who in the end still never seems to get 'it'. Most people don't.

I can appreciate architecture and art from every century and continent, fine wine and gourmet cuisine from around the world, exotic and antique cars, a beautiful woman in stunning fashion, a classic movie, an overture, brilliantly written literature, prose and poetry. But not every thing can be at the top of its game, the best of its category, otherwise we would live in a world of indifference to that which deserves a greater appreciation.
