Out of all the available pictures I am sure you have available at your disposal, what prompted you to pick that particluar one for this cover?

We really liked the bow shot of the ship, while having her juxtaposed against the Sydney Harbour Bridge with the very blue sky offered a nice retrospective. We also liked the foreground of the smaller boats and masses of people.

We sail aboard QV again to finish the photography before the book is printed, so the cover may change, but I have to admit, I really like it.

It amazes me the infatuation that some folk have with this "Queen" stuff which is nothing more than an archaic and corrupt institution which will eventually disappear into the history books!

The sooner the better, I say.

Pardon do you mean the Cunard Queens or the Monarchy as institution.

In the first case, if people are Cunard, cruise ship collectors/fan then this book is maybe on to buy. I think the book boost some very nice pictures of the QV.

In the second case cool down you life in a republic. So what do you have to complain about monarchy.

Greetings from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ben.

Indeed Brian. Nothing like becoming a new member of a board, pissing in everybodys corn flakes and insulting their monarchy by your fifth post, and making enemies of the senior members and moderators in . Seems like I just read in their very first post 'go easy on me'. Nice start! Me, rolling my eyes.

I just was curious Chris what makes a writer pick out a cover. Sometimes it can really make a huge difference in a bookstore if I stop and pick it up, simply based on the cover art. Nothing more insinuated.

So that's a no to a pre-order then?

Seriously though, thank you to everyone else for the positive comments. We appreciate it!

Thanks dmwnc1 for the query and it is a very interesting question. For the QE2 Journey we loved the angle that the ship was approaching us at, with the rocks in the foreground and QE2 coming towards you - one of my favourite angles for QE2. Also it was departing our home port so that held a special significance for us

With the QE2 Story we felt the profile shot allowed for an impressive overview of the entire ship, plus the photograph was taken during the farewell season so that seemed fitting given her recent retirement.

The interior shots of QM2 Journey really do emphasise the size of the ship, so we felt that the cover shot, taken in Pago Pago was fitting. Firstly, you can see just how large the ship is because it dwarfs the pier. However, at the same time, the mountains behind give it a sense of scale in that the ship truly is a spec in the vastness of the world it sails.

But, at the end of the day, the main deciding factor is gut feeling. We both liked the photos that ended up being covers and thought that potential readers would like them too. Hopefully we are right

Nice looking book, Chris; you're quickly becoming the next Bill Miller as far as turning out great photo books on ships! Your effort is certainly appreciated; especially by those of us who have a clue....

Thanks for the hard work.

Well all I can say is thank god we have people like Chris who are willing to take such an interest in ships and bring them all closer to us - well done.

...and being from Canada - Long live Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II - Queen of Canada!...and being of dutch background that same to Queen Beatrix ;-)

I'd take a Monchary any day over a Republic!

Not to impugn your excellent book, but I wanted to share with my CT friends the 2010 cruise calendar I just published. It's professionally printed on high-quality paper, and I tried to pick put the best ship pictures I had from 2009. Actually, I haven't even put the info on my website yet, so you are all the first to see it. I'm getting one for my office too. Let me know what you think of the preview.
