Reports are surfacing, that the group that has chartered the Norwegian Star for use as a hotel ship in Vancouver during the Olympics, is facing major issues. A rumour has surfaced that not even 10% of the room have been sold-no wonder as the rates are ridiculous. $700 per person per night!! A push for more sales at lower rates is possible, as the deadline nears for a final go ahead. My guess is the ship will continue to sail for NCL rather than sit as a hotel ship in Vancouver.

I am pretty sure that this close in NewWest (the company chartering the ship) are probably 100% responsible for the cost of the charter. So whether it fills or not, NCLhas the money.

NewWest might consider trying tofind a new travel partner and repositioning the the ship to destination where they could sell the cabins and recoup some of the costs.

NCLmight play nice and assist...but they really don't need to.

Of course,I have no idea what the contract w/ NCL looks like but the above is my initial gut. They should pull the plug on this Olympics idea and begin looking at another option.

These cabins are already available through any of the usual hotel booking sites, Expedia included. I had a quick look at a few dates earlier [you cannot book all dates, so maybe some are full?] and the cheapest was around US$568 per night per room [for 2] including all meals & transfers to a central bus station. But on top of this one had to pay the service charge and gratuities. ["The following fees will be added to the final booking cost: Ship’s Service Fee of US$61.43, including taxes, per cabin, per night, plus a gratuity of US$25.20, including taxes, per cabin, per night."]

Pricey I think.
