South Africa is reported to have vetoed plans to charter Westerdam and Noordam as floating hotels for next year's World Cup. How will this affect plans to move QE2 from Dubai?

If there is a shortage of hotel beds then they are not alternatives, but providing accommodation for more tourists not available otherwise. Won't they sail there bringing tourists anyway? Doubt they would arrive empty.

I doubt that many US people will be there as soccer(football) has never had the following as the rest of the world. We are are so far back that we can never expect to compete in this sport. We tried but IMHO did not fair well!

On the contrary, the US team made it to the quarter-finals in 2002, the same result as England. They didn;t do so well in 2006, however. As regards the tournament in South Africa next year, the US team seems to be well on the way towards qualification.

Let us not forget that the USA was ranked in FIFA's top 10 shortly before the last World Cup (FIFA's ranking system is dreadful). Also, the USA beat England in the 1950 World Cup in Brazil and that loss kept England from advancing to the Final Round of 4. (There were no knockout matches in the 1950 WC.) OTOH, Canada rarely qualifies for the World Cup.
