I think the ship you see on the other side is an Azamara vessel. The south side is - I believe - only used by the occasional Azamara ships. The berth is right next to the RCI HQ building.I have never seen any other ship there.
Maybe Carlos can enlighten us.

I know other ships have docked there before or after their refurb work in Freeport. This shot must have been taken when NCL removed the Nor. Dream from active service but before she was relocated.
Fairsky,
Terminal J/21 is actually an active terminal and berth which is now used to primarily serve small to mid-size ships. Oceania, Azamara, Fred Olsen and Crystal all use it as their preferred berth within the port so not to get caught up in the mega-ship madness.

Right, this terminal is used quite often by the smaller ships. It opened up in 1992 as home berth to the new ROYAL MAJESTY, and that ship, now as the stretched NORWEGIAN MAJESTY, still uses this berth when she's in town.

Actually the terminal is not very small at all, and for the ships it caters to it's pretty large. The terminal also has a large parking garage right across. The view of the ships here is also great, the same view you get from the RCI corporate offices. Another ships i've seen there once or twice has been The World.

Nice classic pictures Carlos. I have always loved pictures of ships fron the late 70's and 80's because it shows how far cruising has come since then and it reminds us of how it used to be.
I guess Royal Caribbean has always had those last couple of terminals.

Indeed - SOUTHWARD & NORDIC PRINCE there the other day.
Pam
Yes, from Pam's pictures there is also Louis Cristal which sailed from here back in the 90's when she was NCL's Leeward.
Along with Summit, MSC Armonia & Easycruise Life, but they don't count here.
Here's a cool picture of 4 ships sailing out of the Government Cut.

I can't believe how close they are. Was there a special circumstance that forced them to get all the ships out in a short time? When we left from Miami there was only one ship moving in the channel at any time. It wasn't until the previous was clear of the beach that the next would start moving from the pier.

There's no rule in Miami that only one ship at a time can be in the cut; multiple ships are in it all the time. This view really spans nearly two miles, so they aren't as close as it appears.
The only rule I can recall regarding ships in Government Cut was back in the early '80s, when the NORWAY was new. She drew 35 ft. and the cut was dredged to 36 ft. NORWAY was always the last one into Miami and the last one out on sailing days, to avoid any possible grounding which would delay other ships.
