Email Neil - Ex P & O & PRINCESS CRUISES

Maxim Gorkiy is on the move this morning at 14.2 knots.

Her destination is shown as Argolikos Kolpos which is in the Argolic Gulf.

She is due to arrive there at 15.00 hrs on the 24th December.

She anchored in the gulf at 15.00 hrs across from the Greek towns of Kiverio and Nafplio.

No news on why she has moved.

maybe they will lay her up their or is their a shipyard near their? Do laid up ships pay anything when they are laid up in places such as Eleusis or anchor somewhere for a long period of time?

Costs vary from port to port. Here in Gibraltar, for example, ships have to pay to anchor in the Bay (ie the west side of the Rock) but there is no charge to anchor on the east side. Many ships are anchored here for months awaiting orders, buyers, etc.

This morning Maxim Gorkiy has returned to the anchorage area outside of the port of Piraeus.

Also there is the Van Gogh.

I think this Vistamar might be a Greek vessel and not the German operated one.

Photo coming up on the AIS maps shows the German ship but this was also happening when the German operated Vistamar was near Aden.

The VISTAMAR at anchor in Piraeus Roads near MG and VG is the small cruise ship operated by Plantours. Her IMO Number 8701193 verifies this.

VISTAMAR is still at Piraeus ?????

According to Plantours' website (www.plantours-partner.de), she was scheduled to leave Piraeus on December 16 !

Their cruises have been cancelled ???

Yes, I've just checked again on AIS and VISTAMAR is still anchored in Piraeus Roads, near MAXIM GORKIY and VAN GOGH. She should have sailed from Piraeus on 16 December on a 21 day cruise to Dubai.

VISTAMAR has huge technical problems with the engines after the experienced ukrainian engine-crew got exchanged by Rumanians. These guys ruined the diesel-generators as I was told by my partners in Odessa.
That's the reason why she is currently laid up in Piraeus.

Sounds as if the employing of a cheaper and inexperienced crew has cost them money.

I have received an official statement from plantours & Partner confirming an engine failure following "Vistamar's" recent dry-docking, which by coincidence involved hefty technical refits. The ship is to resume service February 16th, 2009.

Will she resume service from Walvis Bay (where she is scheduled to be) and dead-head there from Piraeus? I wouldn't have thought this to be an easy turnaround port!!
