Stories are starting to appear saying that QE2 has run aground on the Brambles, on its way into Southampton for the last time. Here's the story:

... but apparently only temporarily, possibly as a result of high winds. A pity; I rather fancied the idea that she was refusing to go to Dubai.

There again, there's always this evening!

One assumes Dubai will get a discount - I mean she probably has a dent in her and at least a good scratch.

The "Cabal" probably sat round a table, held hands seeking divine inspiration that Hotel Brambles would be more dignified (and closer to home) than Hotel Dubai

What the heck was she even doing that close to the Brambles, hell I used to be very careful when I was in that area with my boat, let alone the QE2.

She was in trouble nearly an hour and a half. She was doing 0 knots when I received a text at 5.09am but didn't actually hit anything until around 5.24am. That's when my crew member said he was woken up and also some people I spoke to yesterday said they felt something. I suspect she lost power and was pushed into the sandbar by the wind. I was on Shieldhall and we couldn't get off the dock to meet her at Calshot. Eventually VTS said we could go after Lizzie had berthed, which was just before 8am. Her arrival time had been changed from 7am to 6.15am so she was 1 hour and 50 minutes late by that then. But hey, we got the daylight arrival we wanted!
