We just returned from San Francisco to see the Star Princess in drydock @ Pier 70.

For better or for worse, MUTS (Movies Under the Stars) is definitely going in – the frame was already installed.

It's amazing how big these ships look when they are out of the water.

We have pics in the link attached.

Thanks Craig. STAR PRINCESS looks especially ungainly sitting out of the water.

I read that most of the major interior work that was supposed to be done is on hold. This was moving the casino up a level and adding suites. I think the reason was a labor dispute or something like that at the shipyard.

Of course adding MUTS was the one major change that was not canceled.

Star Princess has arrived, largest ship in Dry Dock here. Formerly my view was Independence each morning, now Star Princess (at least for the next two weeks). Never liked her bow..

Hi Ernie,

We heard that the casino move was canceled as well. I thought it was strange to move it to the main promenade deck anyway, so no loss there.

I've heard they are continuing with the upgrade of the Atrium into the Piazza and adding International Cafe, Vines and the Sanctuary at the Lotus Pool area.

Yes, plans are the the Piazia(sp?) to continue and turn the Steakhouse into the Crown Grill. I am wondering where the sports court will be relocated to when the sanctuary is put in it's place?

I believe I like this upgrade more so then when they moved the casino and added 7 cabins. I am glad MUTS is being added as well.

I cannot understand those non-balcony suites to begin with. In today's market who is going to want to book suites without balconies?

Actually, there are a lot of families who don't like balaconies when traveling with children and some people (like my sister) are scared to go out on them. So there is a market for a mini type suite with HUGE windows and no balacony.

I for one LOVE my balacony.

Doe anyone know whether or not they are still going to remove the teen/youth centre and it's deck house just aft of the lap pool? This would create much more open deck space at the forward end of Deck 16. That space was my favoured hang out on Emerald Princess, and with an upcoming 32 day voyage in the sun from Vancouver to Sydney, I would sure like that change to still happen!

I believe that deck house contains the golf simulators on the Star, so will remain after the refit. The kids and teens area is on the Sun Deck, aft.
