This deserves its own thread.

Aker builder- the CTer who is working in Turku on Oasis- has confirmed that the ship's hull is indeed light blue in color. The speculation began when with this brochure was released:

http://www.royalcaribbean.co.uk/email/2008/06Jun/Oasis/Royal%20Caribbean%20Oasis%20Brochure.pdf

Photos from the shipyard, like the ones below, also reveal a white superstructure and light blue hull.

W/the mass of white up top the very light blue paint may help her appear a little 'lighter'. I'm not a fan of light blue but against the blue Caribbean it may be attractive.

Go for it RCI - as personally I find all white ships rather boring!

How about another Green Goddess?

Frankly I'm really surprised RCI is going with a light blue hull. Why? Is this an attempt at product differentiation like NCL's "hull art"? OASIS doesn't need to stand out anymore than she already does .... being the largest cruise ship in the world I think she will be noticed.

It's too early to tell, but from what I see now I don't like the light blue hull. It looks like a primer coat of paint to me. Maybe a darker blue like NORWAY would be better? Besides, Royal Caribbean ships have always been crisp white and have always looked fantastic. Why spoil a good thing?

I like the idea. There are indeed too many white ships. I guess this is much more motivated by the aesthetics than by trying to be different. Painting the hull light blue will structure her appearance a bit. Don't forget that she will be a rather intimidating sized ship.

I wonder if this will lead to other ships in the fellt going to a light blue hull? I can't imagine the others with this colour - interesting.

I don't think aesthetically a light blue hull will make OASIS look any better. It makes the ship look unfinished to me, but again I will have to see the finished product. Also from an economy of scale and marketing viewpoint it doesn't make sense. Why have one ship in the fleet painted a different color? What does that say about the rest of the fleet, and it also means light blue paint has to be purchased for a single ship when the rest of the fleet only needs white.

I don't know, I think there is already so much inconsistency within individual cruise brands why make one more when you don't have to.

This is of course a question of taste and we indeed have to wait and actually see it.

It depends a lot on how it's done. A (slightly) different livery for two ships is not necessarily inconsistent. Also, it could be the launch of a new livery that will be introduced to the whole fleet. Costs for buying a different paint are probably totally negligible.

This doesn't have anything to do with the paint, but there's recent picture found on Shipspotting, date says July 6.

You know, I'm still not convinced the final result will be a baby-blue hull. In today's Travel Weekly, there was a large pull out marketing piece for OASIS. On the front page is a large rendering of OASIS, with an all white hull.

Perhaps RCI is still deciding?

I think a light blue hull on OASIS would not be a bad idea. Actually, it reminds me a bit of the old liner liveries from the past.

At this early stage of the building process would the hull be painted in it's final colour already? I would have thought that it was an undercoat.

It looks a bit like Maersk Line's super container ships, also a light blue hull - they are also the biggest of their kind

Aesthetically, I think the only thing a light blue hull will accomplish is making OASIS look extremely top heavy. The blue hull will only accentuate how many decks of balconies there are above the hull.

Again, the final result may look good, but somehow I think it will make the ship look very unbalanced.

I hope RCI will rethink this decision, if in fact they have made the decision at all.

Johan, as soon as I saw that I thought about Maersk containers ships as well. (Not the exact same color of course, since the Maersk blue is trademarked).

Nal, perhaps Rd77 is refering to Union Castle blue lavander (which was not the same of course) or perhaps he's refering to bi-color scheme in general, not necessarily light blue in particular.

Well, we'll see what finally comes out off the yard soon. But, though I'm not certain at all, I suspect it will actually be light blue indeed.

As soon as I saw the renderings of OASIS, I was reminded of the Portuguese CCN liners, which had light blue hulls, although with a touch of grey. We're talking about liners like PATRIA '47, IMPERIO '48, ANGOLA '49, MOCAMBIQUE '49, INDIA '51, etc., etc.

Was the hull color on Shaw Savill light blue? On my model of the Southern Cross it appears this way, though on my Northern Star model it looks more grey. Each picture I see of the ships, it looks a different color. Of course the green superstructure throws off my color sense anyways.

looks blue here

greener gray here

and lavender grey here

Even the Southern Cross is managed to appear top heavy with that colour hull. I updated NauticalCities illustrations with the light blue hull and I have yet to put them up because...

well, they looked funny.

To me the light blue color is very subtle. Will wait until I see her in person to make judgment.

There are cool greys w/a blue tint to them and warm greys which have a brown tint. HAL's late 1950s livery were in the warm grey tones while the current paint on Rotterdam V is a cooler grey.

Haha, no I can't!

However, for some reason, it reminded bit of the HAL livery (although that was light gray, not light blue). But I think the impression will a little bit the same.
