Forget the NCL and Carnival announcements today. Take a look at these new and amazing Oasis of the Seas construction pictures.

Thanks Carlos. Those look great. I really wanted to be at the Media event tomorrow in New York but could not make it. I have some other members from CC that were also invited and were able to make it and have promised to post the details as soon as they become available.

Thanks Carlos! I wish more cruise ships would have attractive rounded cruiser style sterns like this ship. Also the bow pics are amazing.

After looking at the pics, especially this one:
http://rcigenesis.googlepages.com/m4.jpg/m4-full;init:.jpg

I have to say that while Central Park as a concept is great, when seen for real opposed to the "spacious, airy" renderings, this feels like a Royal Promenade w/out a roof and I sense it is going to feel crowded and those cabins do feel close to one another...kind of like downtown apartments that are too close to one another.

I'll be interested in seeing more as the construction progresses.

I must agree - it does look utterly impressive...and I must say that I really love the Boardwalk concept and how the ship opens onto the ocean/ amphitheatre...interstingly upon looking back on ship designs I did back in the 80s for myself as a tennager - I had a space very similar to this...interesting.

While it is not a ship I would line up for - I have always enjoyed my RCI experiences and would not say NO if someone asked me to go.

I'd be interested to see what prices start at for the far aft Boardwalk cabins that overlook the stern/Aqua Theater. Wonder if they would be more expensive than just a plain old sea-facing balcony cabin? Its going to be interesting to see how they price all the inward facing Boardwalk and Central Park cabins compared to the sea-facing balcony cabins. I wouldnt want a cabin above the carousel, possibly running all day blaring out carousel music for the whole week. That might get old.

Hmmm, if you listen, you can hear a huge MOOOOoooo in the distance. Thar be a new cash cow coming!

Wow. The ship is beyond what I could have imagined they'd do. And it is a lot closer to the "concept" illustrations Akers did years ago.

This ship truly could anchor off-shore and be as big a hit as any port it could travel too.

I could be wrong, it still looks like there are cabins overlooking the Royal Promenade as well.

As for the dueling "reveals" between F3 and Oasis, I would declare the winner Oasis, on the weight of the innovation along.

There are cabins overlooking the Royal Promenade. I'm sure that there will also be your standard interior cabins on the lower decks that we see on the Voyager and Freedom class. Looks like they have something to offer everyone. I will be on the phone bright and early the morning of 9/03 when the bookings open for her first sailing which will be on 12/12/09.

I agree. If you look at the following images you will see that the actual size is much smaller than the renderings.

Actual CP:

CP Rendering from RCI:

What's interesting is that the rendering from RCI appears to have been stretched horizontally (

That's my Cabin!

The rising tide bar has changed a lot since the first renderings. It looks like a UFO now.

So where are the pools?

Here's an "unstretched" version of the same CP rendering that seems to be more realistic.

A closer examination of the funnels shows that it appears that the exhaust pipes will retract (not fold) into the funnel casings for passage under bridges. This confirms what we've heard from shipyard sources.

Does anybody think that the back of Genisis looks like Pinnacle. I mean if you look at it closely you can see the split down the middle of the back of the ship. obviously Genisis isnt a new design. Maybe inside but definitely not out.

This is way too much! I think they need to take alot of those things off and think about how to make it feel more like a ship. This ship is way over the top. Mr. Fain is about to make the biggest mistake of his life. I wonder if he's that crazy to do something like this do you know how much it is to fill that thing up half way let alone all the way full. DUMB. He needs to follow Mickey Arison! Why do you think Mickey has been so sucessful these past years. The difference between Mickey Arison and Richard Fain is that Mickey doesen't do things he cant afford. But sadly Richard spends money he doesent have and puts his company in debt. CCL has about 900 million in debt but RCCL has about 2 Billion dollars in debt. Recently RCCL had to take out a loan to finish paying off IOTS! If they can't pay off 800 million dollar ships how will they pay off BILLION dollar ships? They will proabably borrow more money and deepen their debt

The scale of the people in the renderings also seems slightly out of whack when you compare the size of the workmen to the size of the RP skylight.

Still impressive but the more I look at it the more the balconies overlooking CP seem not that great (you can almost throw paper planes across the void) but I guess they will still be an improvement over the standard inside cabin with the blank wall behind the curtain.

Hi Carnival guy, I assume from your name that you are a Carnival fan. Are their ships not a bit 'over the top', in terms of decor at least?

Genesis is not designed as ship, it's a floating resort! None of the big three brands are building very 'nautical' ships, they are all mass-market family alternatives to a beach or Disneyland vacation. They are NOT aimed at everyone.

There will always be some smaller traditional ships offering a more traditional cruise experience. There are even some big ones (QM2 etc.) that do.
