NCL have announced that they will be revealing the next bit of news about F3 in Las Vegas on June 17.

The only clue, perhaps, is it says: "...Vegas, where the days are hot and the nightlife even hotter."

At the Wave cabin launch last month, I suggested that the ships will be big enough to carry a roller-coaster, and NCL's Andy Stuart almost turned pale. Will it be a coaster? Or a new super-casino?

Any thoughts...?

June 17, sounds fishy . Genesis' second revelation will be June 18 .

Vegas is home to the hottest, hippest, most vibrant dining and nightlife scene in the world. This is where they reveal key dining and entertainment venues.

That's my bet...

I agree, and perhaps a twist on shipboard gaming as well.

So the cabin designs were announced at the same time as Central Park. Now the next F3 feature is going to be announced a day before the next Genesis feature. Trying to steal the spotlight perhaps. Probably going to backfire, Central Park blew the cabins out of the water. This date may just draw peoples attention to the cruise industry just in time for Genesis to jump into the spotlight. Their trying to play a media game here, but I don't think it will work. The cruise industry only gets so much media attention and it tends to be delayed. This may cause publications to make a choice and Genesis will probably be it.

I'd say entertainment/nightlife definitely, and possibly dining as well, though that might be saved for another announcement. (There are supposed to be four, I believe.)

Maybe an huge indoor-outdoor dance club/lounge. I can see cool cabanas and several bars surrounding a large dance area w/outdoor lounging beds, maybe a stage or two for night time performances. How about some Go-Go boys and girls in cages as an added touch??

I'm not sure that they did. We have certainly discussed the New Wave cabins more on CT than we did Central Park (but not always in a positive light). Central Park was leaked news, the New wave cabins were a complete suprise. Cabins are of course very important part of everyones cruise experience, some passengers may not require a park!

With all of those passengers and cabins, and NCL's Freestyle layout, I cannot imagine that the F3's having innovations that need big spaces.

We can easily guess that the F3's will have multiple entertainments and dining rooms. This will probably mean lots of single height rooms and few double/triple height rooms and no giant atriums, RCI style.

Hmm..."hot days"? Maybe the F3's will be the first modern ships NOT to have any air conditioning. Hmm..."hot nights": a Lap Dancing club? A big Casino is more likely. I wonder if the F3's will be the first ships to carry named Las Vegas Casino?

Maybe insted of winning money onboard you will be able to win a table in the dining room of your choice at exactly the time that you want.

I go to Vegas every even #ed year for a convention, odd # years it is in NYC.

Vegas is a chore. Outside the strip it is run down, and banal as what you see in the movies. A cab driver there mentioned to me it has the highest personal bankruptcy and domestic violence rate in the country.

The grand hotel/casinos are mostly populated with polyester clad middle Americans puffing on cigarettes and inhaling the $14.95 all you can eat buffet. There is no glamour here.

The only good thing about Vegas is that it is a starting point to see the national parks in Utah, and California: Death Valley, Zion, and Bryce Canyon.

Bennie, the cities such as New York, London, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam are where many of the social movements that change the world happen.

Rotterdam, Milan, Frankfurt, Tokyo IMO are the business capitals of the world. They are prosporous and interesting, but are not agents of social change.

Actually Vegas is no longer just for the polyester clad middle-America tourist. Vegas has become hip, young, and trendy. This is fairly easy to see just by the caliber of hotels that have popped up. Four Seasons, Wynn, Ritz Carlton, The Hotel, Rio, Palms, Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood, Venetian, Mandalay Bay, Trump, etc. More are to follow. Even the existing hotels are changing their image to appeal to a younger more hip demographic. Vegas hotels have even made many of the pool areas into a nightclub atmosphere. Parties by the pool are well organized and appeal to the 20-something crowd, and the pools themselves have become stunning.

Vegas is home to many, many World class restaurants headed by celebrity chefs in venues that are stunning. These are not the all you can eat buffets of Vegas past, but expensive high end restaurants that can easily compete with the best that NY and LA have to offer. Vegas is also shedding it's "family" reputation that it tried to build up in the 90's for something more adult and sophisticated.

Much of the new found Vegas success can be attributed to it's location, very close to Southern California with a population larger than many countries. The population of Southern California is relatively young, likes trendy new things, and has money to spend. Add the Celebrity mix to the equation and suddenly Vegas becomes "the" hot destination.

I might also add that I have several flight attendant friends that live in Vegas. Just like any city, there are good parts and bad parts, but most of it is pretty nice and new. Certainly there are many NE and Midwest cities much more run down then Vegas. Also, it's quite possible to live a "normal" life in Vegas once you are away from downtown and the Strip. Many people do and a lot of the bedroom communities are similar to other modern cities. Vegas is also an attractive place to live because it's cheap compared to Southern California and the jobs are plentiful. It's one reason Vegas is usually in the top five fastest growing cities in the US, along with Atlanta and some other cities in the South and SW.

Usually I see ripped shorts and T-shirt with gut hanging out in those spectacular hotels

There are a lot of Conventioneers of which I am. It is cheaper and less hassle to have a large trade show there than San Fran or LA.

Then again SouthBeach is supposed to be hip and trendy. I found it to be supermodel wannabees with mountains of debt to pay for the cocaine and designer clothes.

We are driving from Vegas to Long Beach which is 5-6 hours according to mapquest. Phoenix is about the same drive time. Salt Lake City; not sure

Philadelphia is cheap compared to New York with most of the amenities, and close but still losing population. Go figure

It will give you a report about Vegas on my return.
PS: 15 days to Queen Mary 1

Much of Vegas is perception and the crowd you hang out with. If you are with a group of upstart 20-somethings from SoCal spending the weekend in Vegas, chances are your experience will be quite different than a large group of conventioneers from around the country that vary in age.

My point is that Vegas does have amazing nightlife, first rate hotels, and world class restaurants just as Tim pointed out. This being said, I don't think these are the venues the average conventioneer will frequent.

I went to a party at Liberace's mansion in 2004, Joe removed the pic.

www.pbs.org had a 4 part special on Las Vegas dating from it being an 1850's outpost to today. They went into detail about the mob controlled years, family entertainment and the 21st Century changes. 1973, 1998, 2001, 04, and 06 wer the times I visited.

Ernie,

This will be bf's first trip there. Any recommendations of the hip and avant garde?

desirod7, may I offer you some advice, please stop listening to cab drivers.

As someone who happens to live in Las Vegas I can tell you that like ever other major city in the world Las Vegas has it good areas and it has it's bad areas, the thing with Vegas is the bad areas get torn down and new development steps in.

Not to be rude, but I should point out, stay out of the kiddy games areas of the hotels and go take a look at the night clubs and the restaurants, I would put them up against any other city in the world.

Also, take a run out to the Redrock or Green Valley Ranch, you will drive through areas of Las Vegas most tourists don't see, once you are clear of Rainbow Blvd to the west you will see what Vegas is really like.

Ok, back to the topic in hand..anyone know where the announcement is being made ?

So tomorrow is the unveil of chapter 2, and it seems like the consensus is that it will be about the dining options and nightlife. This is how i think the chapters are going to rollout...

Chapter 1 - New Wave Cabins
Chapter 2 - Very big casino (maybe more), largest club at sea, and numerous themed restaurants (Italian, Japanese, etc.)
Chapter 3 - on board activities and "firsts" at sea (Bowling Alley, etc.)
Chapter 4 - First official rendering of the ship as well as the name.

Regards,

Brian

I still think there should be a large cool pool area w/an indoor-outdoor layout. Cabanas w/lounging areas on the sides w/a large indoor-outdoor dance floor in the center-w/a portion over a pool.

I am just back from Vegas. This is my 6th trip since 1998. We actually had a good time since we were with great people. I am a conventioneer, and go to private events at the ritzy hotels such as Wynn, Luxor, and the Mirage. Mandalay Bay is fun.

The special throughout the city is steak and shrimp.
The catered events attended all had good food.
Off the strip, the $11.99 all you can eat is usually leftovers and no bargain for anyone with tastebuds.

I am not up late enough for the 2am starting nightlife.

North Vegas's Fremont Walk is the old Vegas and more interesting and fun.

The Vegas of the 1950's with the rat pack and other celebrities is history.

Top name shows now are Bette Midler, Cher, and Roseanne Barr.

Gas now $4 gallon the heavy traffic is now just at rush hours.

Vegas is known where good people can be bad, and a sunny place for shady people.

NewYork, NY, is looking tired, Paris, the Venetian, is called

This is going to be a big week for the US cruise industry. Carnival is supposed to announce a little more about the Carnival Dream today such as her itinerary from Pt. Canaveral. NCL is in Vegas today and tomorrow at 12:30 in New York, Royal Caribbean is going to announce the remaining neighborhoods and some other items of interest on the Oasis.
