From the bridgecam it looks like QV has been docked amongst all the cargo.
What a shame she didn't have the Ocean Terminal for her first visit.

This will to happen again next year as we will have Seven Seas Voyager, Legend of the Seas and Nautica in Hong Kong when QV visits HK next year.

In addition, QE2 will also have to berth at container terminal this year, since Crystal Serenity is using Ocean Terminal on the day QE2's in HK.

QV is not large enough for not being able to berth at Ocean Terminal. She was once listed in the terminal's schedule but was later deleted since the date was changed. On the other hand, close sister Arcadia will be in Hong Kong and berth at Ocean Terminal the next day that QV visits Hong Kong next year.

What are the plans for the new cruise terminal that will be built at the former Kai Tak Airport? Will it be large enough to accomodate Star Cruises' operation along with other cruise lines?

To have additional ship berths in Victoria Harbor will be much better than the cargo terminal. From a passenger stand point, I would be disappointed not being in the heart of the city.

Way back when US carriers used to anchor in the harbor. Is this still the case for large ships or for cruise ships??

The new terminal is expected to be completed in 2012. At that time, it will have 2 berths (in the long run it will have 4 berths).

In 2012, HK will have 4 berths. (2 for Star & 2 for others)

According to the news, only 1 berth will be completed by 2012. Of course Star's ships are small enough to squeeze two together at the same time.

However, this berth is likely to be fully utilized by Star Cruises and probably no or little room for other ships.

But of course, Star Cruises may not use this terminal at all, especially if they don't win the bid. The Kai Tak terminal will be having a much poorer transportation compared to Ocean Terminal, which is right at the heart of the harbour. Kai Tak is not. On the other hand, the cruise terminal will be developed alone and all nearby areas will be undeveloped when the terminal is completed. Thus, it takes around 30 minutes to coach passengers to city centre, and the coach has to pass the construction sites around.

I hope Star Cruises continue to use the Ocean Terminal. I have yet sailed in/out of OT, but have visited the building a few times. It is quite an interesting place - really love the rooftop parking.

I heard that Star Cruises has said to the government that they will NOT use the new terminal due to poor location and transportation. Many of their passengers are walk-in passengers and so location of the embarkation point DO matters.

But of course, if they win the bid I believe they will move their ships there. But if Star Cruises move there I believe there won't be a berth avaliable in the new terminal for foreign cruise ships as Star Cruises ships are berthing frequently daily.
