This short break cruise by BR to STH (directly after her dg-retrofit at BVR in HAM) is a result of the enormous interest in JW´s short breaks from STO,
which were sold out in three weeks.

Does anyone know how to get from Hamburg Airport to the terminal?

Is it easier to go to hamburg or Luebeck?

I'm on the verges of a reservation!

Why fly to Lubeck if you want to sail from Hamburg?

I know. Ryanair would always be a last resort.

I can get flights from London City to Hamburg with Lufthansa for only £52.

Any saving in a flight to Lubeck is swallowed up in the cost of getting to Hamburg and wherever you would fly from in the UK.

Flybe from Brum to Hamburg is even cheaper, depending on which day you wish to fly, and maybe easier for you to get to Brum than say Luton or Stansted? Shame that route is not available from SOU.

Pam
[I was thinking you were in Southampton now I note it says SE England so maybe Brum is not so easy. Use Skyscanner to search flights, there are some easyJets even better to Hamburg, but you would probably need an overnight stay outwieghing the savings].

Don't forget there is also the train. Quite handy as Brussels/Hamburg is overnight.

Hi Pam

I am actually based in glamourous Essex.

I think I will opt for London City flights - only 40 minutes away, and I prefer the toches of a proper airline such as comfortable seats, allocated seating, food and drink. Not to mention helpful, friendly staff.

I agree with you P&OO and with Pam.
I would do the same, flying from STO.

Hello everybody,

as far as public transport in Hamburg is concerned, I would suggest taking the "Airport-Express" bus to Hamburg Central Station. From there "Metrobus" line 6 (departing ten meters from where the "Airport-Express" stops) connects the Central Station with the cruise terminal. The bus stop's name has recently been changed from "Am Dalmannkai / SAP" to "Marco-Polo-Terrassen" (some busses still show the old name).

Best,

Raoul

I wonder how much of Ryanair's financial success is due to passengers who never think about this, or about all the extra charges that Ryanair add on for the things which are included in other airlines' fares, and who only look at the headline price? Though passengers who only do that probably deserve all that they get.

It's true to an extent.

By the time you add the cost of baggage, onboard food & drink and speedy boarding if you want to it together and fare to the actual destination - regulary it's cheaper to fly full service.

In September it was about £30 cheaper to fly Barcelona-London with British Airways than it was with easyJet.

It DOES also have to be said that it's only cheaper if you value and use these services. Michael O'Leary strips the cost out for those who want the extra, pay the extra. I have flown Ryanair London-Dublin about 12 times, each time with hand luggage - therefore why should I contribute to the ground handling staff when I am not using them? Those who want this service should pay for it - and it is not unreasonable to charge them.

If you are using all services, then full service airlines are often competitive.

If people don't like Ryanair and their polices - don't fly with them and THEN moan - fly with someone else and pay the premium for your choice!

Ryanair's success is also cheifly down to the fact they opened new markets, rather than attract from other airlines.

Their pricing structure made it possible for more people to fly than before with traditional airlines.

I thought this topic was about bargain BR HAM to STH, so it´s about to derail and should anymore flight postings be directed to Air Talk.
