Here's a picture of Ventura under construction, exterior almost finished. I really don't know what to say, she's plain boring.

They could have done something better with the funnel.

Its a particularly lousy picture to begin with. Dont judge a book by its cover, either. Just because the outside is a 'repeat' doesnt meen the inside cant be amazing. Heck, most of MSC's newbuilds have hideous exteriors, but the insides are beautiful. Have any computer images of the interior been released of Ventura?

Beside that, it's not that she looks much worse (or better) than other modern ships. Not every ship has to be totally different or new - more innovations would not hurt but it's not that there are none - e.g. the new Aida ship is actually very, very interesting. (but sadly not pretty either)
Having more sisters of a certain design does not hinder anyone to go with 'more interesting' ships that are still around - one can easily avoid them.

hmmm... I am not sure the funnel treatment works very well. I would have liked to have seen a more P&O funnell. Or at least paintthe whole thing "buff" That "shield" looks wierd to me.

She basically looks like the CROWN PRINCESS and EMERALD PRINCESS because that is exactly what she is. Personally I find this particular class of ship particularly unattractive. I actually preferred the "shopping cart handle" on the older ships of this class.

It would have to be extra extra good on the inside. Can the designer honestly be happy with the way this looks. It's not that long ago since P&O produced the fine looking Aurora and Oriana.

I found here quite a pretty Ocean Liner

Just jocking.....

Beside that she is on of a long row of similar vessels. personally i think this design have some very nice design elements. I love the bow and bridge area. In this case i think the funnel looks very odd. Agree with Tad it looks better if they paint the whole thing buff.

Greetings Ben.

I am not sure about painting the whole thing buff - this could look intimidating. Why not painting the 'grill' black?

Having seen the "P&O Cruises" logo painted on the side of the ship in earlier publicity material, I had hoped this was only artistic licence. Looking at the photo, it appears P&O is going down the Pullmantur route of having its name scrawled along the hull of its ships!

This is how we see Carnival Corp. coming along with P&O and Princess. It's OK, I don't like it, but OK to use the same design over and over but Ventura is not P&O period. We can see that the yellow paint on her funnel is an IMITATION of the original thing, why not just paint the whole thing yellow like they have done with others.
Yes the interior might end up being very well achieved but her exterior gives another impression of P&O, at least to me.
I agree with Ernie and Ben that this this class has some nice elements, but when it comes to designing a ship P&O is not Princess as HAL is not Cunard and so on.

We can be thankful that the Princess interior designers have nothing to do with VENTURA. In this aspect VENTURA will be unique, and from what I have seen of her interiors they look quite smart. Unfortunately nothing will improve the exterior.

Wow, I just took a good look at the funnel. It looks absolutely absurd. Too bad Carnival Corp. would not spend the money to design VENTURA a unique funnel. It's all about mass-production I guess.

The funnel is indeed awkward. The buff painted panel somehow looks 'empty' - something is missing there. Very strange to show the 'house color' by leaning a panel in that color against the funnel. It would have been more consistent (and brave) to have the new P&O logo up there - or as said, another funnel. (painting the grill black would still help)

It just looks silly.

First, the funnel as everyone has said is dumb. Paint the whole thing buff!

Second, the blue/green tint to the glass is bad. It should have been gray/black like the balconies and windows on Aurora and Arcadia. This seems like it would have been a simple, and inexpensive, change for Carnival Corp and Fincantieri to make. It would have been purely cosmetic. The blue glass is just one more sign that this is a Princess ship pretending to be P&O.

Ugh. I just think the Grand class is the ugliest design out there. I really don't like the shape of the bow and I actually prefered the shopping cart handle.

The funnel is bad.

No doubt Carnival Corp. is not changing the funnel so they can easily transfer any Grand Class ship between Princess and P&O as needed. They have already done this with the Sun Class so why not the Grand Class as well? Anymore, P&O just seems to be a British version of Princess anyway. Transfer the ORIANA and AURORA to Cunard and there is nothing unique or appealing about P&O as far as I'm concerned.

I can't help but agree with some of the sentiments expressed above. She's just another Grand-class Princess, a class that is starting to wear out its welcome. And yes, this class is way better with the "spoiler" on the back rather than placed behind the funnel. That said, it's still an oddity. I've seen the renderings of the ship's interior, and I actually prefer the Princess execution, blase pastels and earthtones notwithstanding. Some of Ventura's designs are just a little too ultra-modern for me. But then again, she's not in our market anyway. No great shakes.

I think that ventura's colors are badly chosen. the princess ships aren't a beauty themselves, but definately look better than this thing. Princess's grand classes are basically two colors: blue and white. the painted section of the hull is blue, along with the glass on the balconies and the funnel.
http://home.exetel.com.au/locofonic/starp.htm

then there's ventura's. red hull, greenish glass, and a yellow funnel. not the most complementing colors.

but I disagree about the shopping cart design; i thought it made the ship look a bit unbalanced, with the tallest point at the very stern. also, I would think it would be a bit funny swimming in one of the 2-3 pools back there, with a giant thing above your head. no sun to shine on you. it also made the ship look unsleek, with those giant supports holding it up.

overall, I think princess did a much better job with the ship.

Could not have said it better myself, though having the disco up there caused more than one lady to "fall of her heels" on our cruise on the CB.

The ship is not finished yet. Allot can happen in four months. There are allot of things that can happen to the exterior in that time.

Actually no. The exterior is pretty much finished. The last four months will be spent fitting out the interior, loading stores, and training/placing crew.

What you see on the exterior is pretty much what you get.
