Wow!
I'd loved to have been there, I bet the fireworks were fantastic.
I bet there were a few sore heads onboard the next day...

Hello again

We had something like 13.000 passengers on board of all cruise ships, + crew members...

The local economy had a good day logically, moreover our industry is turism only, so we certain provided a good show and certainlly nobody was disappointed with the events & fireworks.

Enjoy the fireworks display on the following links:-

We, about 250 or so, watched from the terrace of the Cliff Bay Hotel. It was really a terrific show. I could not keep up with, nor did I try, to monitor the procession of cruise ships entering and leaving the harbor. I believe some, QV for example, departed before NYE and did not get to watch the fireworks. Last year, QE2 bailed out a day early, and we aboard missed it as well. Does Cunard have a thing about this ceremony?

Saga Rose came in in the late afternoon, and anchored just off our hotel. Then, after about 30 minutes, they decided that the place was not satisfactory and moved a few ship lengths to a new location. The seismic effects of the dropping of her anchor, a few hundred yards away, were noted.

At the stroke of midnight, most of the ships blew their whistles, simultaneously with the detonation of the first set of fireworks. and, of course, applauded with their whistles at the conclusion.

There was a respectable presence of nautical ironmongery on hand. See other postings, I just got back to St. Michaels a few hours ago, after being a guest of assorted flying machine companies for longer than I care to remember, and have not unpacked to set up photo reviews. Those presented here are superior, I am sure.
