So which ships are you sailing on in 2008 or which ships would you wish to sail on, time and money permitting?

(You can't say the SS United States!)

So far for 2008:

MONARCH OF THE SEAS - Feb 25 out of LA
QUEEN VICTORIA - June 10 to Norway
CELEBRITY SOLSTICE - Inaugural December 14

Hopefully many more in between. I would like to sail on Star Clippers, Windstar, and of course Silversea would be fabulous again as well! I took 7 cruises in 2007, which is a record for me. It will be hard to top that and I'm not sure I even want to. I don't want "cruise burn out". I have to admit going on a cruise doesn't quite excite me like it used to, unless it's a brand new ship design or a niche cruise line like Silversea. I don't think I've lost interest in ships, it's just that all these similar designs have become boring to me. More or less the onboard experience is the same on most cruise lines, and now with the ships so similar as well it's time for some fresh designs to be pumped into the industry. Thankfully we do have several new designs on the horizon starting with SOLSTICE which I am quite excited about.

Ernie

I've booked Emerald Princess for January, and in some ways wish I hadn't, as the size puts me off, but I like the 10 day voyage rather than a 7. I wish Ocean Princess would rejoin the Princess fleet and embark upon 10 day voyages. In a broader sense, I wish both HAL and Princess would order ships of less than 100,000 tons, and that they all have larger stern deck areas, similar to the Sitmar ships and the previous Noordam. Finally I wish I was booked an a HAL or P&O voyage!

- Albatros
- Alexander von Humboldt (ex Crown Monarch)
- Marco Polo (after her transfer to Transocean Tours)
- Celebrity Solstice
- Maxim Gorkiy
- Jewel of the Seas (maybe)

I am hoping and praying and dying to go on the QE2 in March from LA to NYC. We haven't booked though yet. If not that then some other QE2 cruise would be great. But I don't know if I will be able to...

So far I am booked on Aurora, Oriana and Pacific Dawn.

I would like to sail on Arcadia, a Radiance class with RCCL and a few more Princess ships.

What I really want to see is a cruise line come up with a totally new design for a cruise ship and not another clone of what they already have.

Ernie, I was considering booking this cruise, but ended up with CROWN PRINCESS to Scandinavia/Baltic August 8th. It would have been nice to meet you.

I am hoping Santa comes late with one of the following:
- NORWEGIAN STAR 3 days Pacific Coastal April 24th
- GOLDEN PRINCESS 1 night Sampler May 9th
- A SUPERSTAR VIRGO cruise from Hong Kong this summer.

This year is going to be a P&O year for us: the attractions of cruising from Southampton have finally won me over (for 2008 at least!). We're booked on Oriana (4 nights, 31 May) and Ventura (12 nights, 28 September) so that will be P&O traditional & modern.

Staying with P&O my ideal cruise would be one of the 17-night cruises on either Aurora or Arcadia to the Adriatic.

2008 plans are still having finishing touches. Highlights for me are
AidaDiva and Maxim Gorkiy (Practice my German)
Ventura (Play with the Scalextrix!)
Celebrity Solstice
Costa Europa (Look for the join!)
QE2 (sad farewell)
Cruise Roma (Grimaldi giant ferry)
Norwegian Jade (Spirit of Aloha?)

Considering Eurodam and MSC + others, + some inevitable ferry outings.

Can I add 09 really looking forward to's.
MSC Fantasia or sister
Genesis
NCL F3.

Two Queen Victoria cruises in 2008? Ernie, what happens if you find that you don't like her much in January?

Mind you, the June itiniary is very nice.

Hi Malcolm,
I think once is enough for QV, at least for now. This being said, I am no longer booked on the tandem crossing. Last week I received a call from the "oversell fairy" at Princess/Cunard. QV was oversold for the tandem crossing and I was given an offer I could not refuse. Here are the details:

Move to the June 10th Voyage of the Vikings cruise on QUEEN VICTORIA. I was actually given some other choices but this one sounded best.
7-day crossing to 12-day Norway cruise.
So I'm gaining 5 extra days at no charge.

Air is fully protected and now Cunard will provide round trip air to London and back instead of just one way air as booked for the crossing.

Upgrade from a category C3 outside cabin on Deck 1 to an A2 Balcony cabin on Deck 8. Cabin 8031 which is on the end with an extra large balcony. I may even end up in Princess Grill but for now it's sold out.

Going from waitlist 2nd dining on the crossing to confirmed 2nd dining on the Norway cruise.

And the most amazing part of all .... an onboard credit of $996.09 per person of which any unused portion fully refundable in cash. Basically Cunard refunded half my cruise fare.

Personally I felt it was a deal too good to pass up. I will miss the tandem crossing but I will survive, especially when I'm cruising to Norway in June. I've never been to Norway so I am excited about that.

Ernie

Enjoy Ernie! Norway's wonderful - like Alaska but without the crowds and T-Shirt shops.

So back on topic: Any more wish lists for 2008?

Well, as you all know, I am booked on QE2 for 5 Jan.

But that's it right now! There will be others, but I have no idea what yet.

As for what I'd like to do... This year, in addition QE2, I'd like to make it on DELTA QUEEN, MAXIM GORKIY, OCEANIC, AEGEAN TWO, SERENADE and REGAL EMPRESS. Hit all those 'oldies' before they're gone!

I'm booked on QE2's Eastbound crossing, April 12th, and I always sail REGAL EMPRESS every year for a quick get-away. Nothing else booked at the moment, although I am working out a trip to Cypress to sail SERENADE on back-to-back cruises in May. I would also try to get aboard AEGEAN TWO or some other vintage ship while I'm in the region. Also high on my "Wish List" would be another sailing aboard OCEANIC.

Whilst I agree with Ernie and others that so many of the new ships have become the same boring thing, I'm making an effort to sail on the few classics still around. They certainly offer a different cruise experience from the typical fare; it's just not as easy and cheap for North Americans to do those ships, as it was in the '80s and '90s when so many classics were sailing closer to home!

My wish list, to cruise on the QUEEN VICTORIA...that would make me happy. Because it's smaller than the QM2 and do a trip on the QUEEN ELIZABETH 2. And get all the memorabilia I can get.

A minimum of 10 days, anywhere, particularly the Med or Hawaii, on *dam.

Actually, I am seriously considering moving up my original timeframe for the Carib on the Noordam from winter of '09 to November/December of '08. After this cancer issue with my wife, we'll need it bad.

Hi Wayne,

In fact I'm considering the 11/5 or 18/5 3-night departure to Sanya and Halong Bay. But I believe they have not yet opened the booking, nor do they have the tariff.

I'm really tired to repeat the Xiamen cruise again.
