It's too bad the company that makes these models can't be sold to those of us who can't sail on every cruise ship. Or is there a way to buy them from them directly without going on a cruise? Their prices are much more reasonable. Bidding for them on Ebay can be a real pain.

Yes, I don't think you can easily buy them shore side.

However, the pottery-type ones they sell on ships seem a good buy at the time. However, when I get them home, in the cold light of day, they really are not very detailed.

The 'classic ship collection models' (German) for example, which probably cost 20 times more are incredibly detailed for their size and hand painted.

Oh well, that's why I can't win them so much on Ebay. I've been able to get a couple of them. But other bidders have more money than I have. One can only hope a company like Miami Passport Products will do what they did. I thought it was wonderful that you could buy directly from them. Sure, they were'nt perfect. But, I liked them alot. Thank you Malcolm.

Hello friends

Like yourselves, I am also a collector of ships models, ...well only of official company ships models, sold on board...

From Carnival group I have from Chinese resin made type some ships from the following comapnies:-

P & O, Costa, Carnival, HAL...

also from resin made:-

NCL, Crystal Cruises, Thomson Cruises, RCCL...

Made from Albatros + Revell ( not in kit´s) series/German build:

AIDA ships, including the newest AIDAdiva, Peter Deilmann...

Hand made on board in wood by crew members:
Club Med 2

Made in IRON/Stell in Italy:.-

COSTA, MSC,Festival....

These are the ones I have and I know...

It is a shame that nowadays Companies have only a small number of items made with the company logo or the ships name...

As a ships postcards collector nowadays I feel much more difficulties to get "decent" ships postcards than in the past...

I find incredible how they used to do magnificent postcards - from my point of view pure art works-of ships on the beggining of the 20th century in sepia, art postcards like Shoesmith,etc...and nowadays with so many technology available, with a revolution in digital art/photo they do/produce ships postcards with such a basic and bad quality...

As an exampe they share a single image of a RCCL ship for each series changing only the name of the ship in the top of the postcards...

No comments as a ship enthusiast I am...

Most likely they hate ships, and only see them as work and profit for sure... instead of us!

Take care

Ship's Agent / Dimas

Yes, it such a shame. Norwegian Gem's card is a photoshopped Norwegian Jewel, it's so daft. Other annoyances are when you go on a ship that has had a major refit and the postcards are 'old' predating the refit. OK to sell them if there are new ones about also. but there aren't.

As to those ceramic models bought aboard I have a few. Norwegian Gem, the latest is half the weight of all the others, appears hollow rather than solid, and again it is not Gem, but Norwegian Star painted over. Quite a different vessel and very disappoiting as my 'Norwegian Jewel' is also Norwegian Star without even the hull art painted on. So without having been aboard N Star I have 2 models. They are terrible, but one buys them.

Some of the nicest models were sold on board several cruise lines back in the '80s. These were fairly detailed, 1:1250 scale models, mounted and covered with a plastic case. And as I recall, they were reasonably priced at around $15.00. Here's a photo of two of mine, from the ROYALE and the RHAPSODY:

The little sticker on the bottom says they were made by Beejay Model Industries, England.

Well, I do have so far 2 of Premier's ships from Miami Passport Industries, ATLANTIC and OCEANIC, the OCEANIC I just won on Ebay. I also was able to win a BERMUDA STAR, which was broken with the NORWAY in '99. I'm still trying to get my hands on the Miami Passport NORWAY. Rich, I love those models you have. I don't recall seeing them sold on board. I love the bases.
Just to add, I do have a model of the SEABREEZE, but not as the ROYALE. At least I don't think so...I have to look. Most of my things are still in wrappers and boxes from my move.

I don't know all of them; I also have the CP coastal liners PRINCESS PATRICIA and PRINCESS MARGUERITE, purchased on board in 1986.

I have a whole bunch of the Passport models, but I actually like the Montego models that were from maybe the mid 80's. I think they were sold on the ships, but I know they were also sold in stores and directly to the customer through an ad in Cruise Travel

here are the Passport Models, which were like a model of the month club...

the Montego Models

and then for something a little different, the fabulous wooden Richard Wagner (riwag) models from the 50's and 60's which were sold on the liners and cruise ships then. They are mostly to an approximate 1:1000 scale.

Sadly, it appears that if you want reasonably good detail on your ship models, then be prepared to pay top money for them. For example, see here. I'd love to get one of the full-hull models of the Amsterdam, but the budget's just not cooperative.

I'm with you on that BigUFan, I just looked at the site and all I could do was GULP! There was also a company called, Promo Group out of Miami and the models were made in Brazil. I found that out, because I have a bid on a JUBILEE model tonight.
