On 12 August 2007, NCL's 93.502 grt Norwegian Gem was floated out of the building dock at the Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. On 14 August we went to photograph the ship at her fitting-out berth

This new album can be accessed (as usual) via my website http://www.vdleek.nl .

Thank you Willem. There's something about that class of ship that I really, really like.

Where has she gone now? Has she already progressed down the Ems?

Hi Tom,

The Ems passage is scheduled for 16 September.

On 4 October I can visit the ship in Rotterdam, so than I can make pictures of the inside.

Thanks for the excellent pics! As for the ship I don't know which is boxier, the fitting-out building or the ship.

Bruce,

It is not a fitting-out building.
It is a covered building-dock.

Thanks for the pictures Willem, they are great. The numbers along the hull I guess is the length in feet or meters, not sure about that though.

In my opinion, that is NOT attractive hull art. Looks like the results of a collision with a paint truck!

I agree. NCL hull 'art' is original - but that's about it.

Nevertheless, thanks for the pictures.

Or a paint truck carrying big chunks of faux gems!

The art on this ship is quite cartoonish compared to their other ships. My favorite is still Pride of Aloha's hull art.

Carlos, the ship is 295 meters long. The most forward figure is 361.
So it is no meters nor feet.

The numbers are the ship´s frames. Starting with 0 where the ruddershaft is (in this case the turning point of the pods, of course) and counting forwards. There ar even so-called negative frames which are the ones behind the rudder/pod.

Hope you can follow my explanation....

Thanks, now I know its not length. There's always something new to learn.
