Quoted from Galaxy's posting in the picture thread

And the same day i was in Geiranger....30 min after i left Geiranger ( 14:30 ) Ocean Majesty hit Thomson Spirit tuesday.... One of Ocean Majesty's life boats is totaly lost and one is a little hurt....Thomson Spirit get som buckled in her bow after the the mishap...Ocean Majesty's 466 passengers left Geiranger wednesday whit bus to Bergen and airplane to uk ....

Has anyone any further news of this event? I cannot find any reference to it by searching Google News.

Do I take it that Ocean Majesty's cruise terminated there and then, and all passengers were disembarked? What happened to Thomson Spirit?

Who hit who, the pic posted by Galaxy on his thread would indicate TS hit OM ? Unless the Captain of the OM was having lunch ?

It seems quite amazing that no definitive explanation has yet emerged as to what actually happened between THOMSON SPIRIT and OCEAN MAJESTY. On the one hand, reports suggest that all OM's pax were disembarked onto 13 buses and sent home via Bergen, with her next cruise cancelled.

On the other hand, we hear the two ships were anchored and simply brushed against each other, with only minor scratches to both ships and each then continued on their respective cruises.

Even Seatrade Insider has not seen fit to mention it! Lloyds MIU refers to the incident in the case of both ships as "Minor denting caused. Underway same day".

Here's more pict. of OCEAN MAJESTY.
The two last one is from Ålesund.
http://www.skipsfarts-forum.net/read.php?TID=4346

From what i understand Thomson Spirit drifted into Ocean Majesty..... Not confirmed.
This is not the first time that ships anchored to close to each other, slam together when wind shifts. Bad calculation from the last one anchored... Was on the sun Viking when Crown Oddesy hit us in Puerto Varlatta back in 1990, no damage done.

A bit late, I'm afraid, but here's the statement issued by Page & Moy on Thursday.

We can confirm the Ocean Majesty was involved in a minor collision with another vessel yesterday, day 5 of an 11 day Norwegian Fjords cruise. There were no casualties.

We have taken advice from the ship’s owners and maritime experts, and it has been confirmed that one of the lifeboats and the davits from a second lifeboat require some repair work to be carried out before it can sail again so we had no alternative but to terminate the cruise.

We have chartered planes to Manchester and Gatwick and are coaching customers from the ship to Bergen Airport with lunch provided en route. We have sent a senior manager and team to Bergen Airport to meet the group and assist with their return flight back to the UK.

We have also arranged for additional staff to be on hand at Gatwick and Manchester to greet the customers and assist with their journey home.
A fleet of coaches will be waiting to take customers back to their original departure point and we are dealing with any special requests such as overnight accommodation.

These are unfortunate circumstances and this situation is a disappointment to our customers but our on board staff and office teams have been working tirelessly to make repatriation as smooth as possible.

A full investigation will take place into the cause of the incident however the Ocean Majesty will be ready to sail on her next departure from Reykjavik on 13 August.

When I first read the report of the collision, I completely forgot that a friend of mine was on the Ocean Majesty. Not until it mentioned "Page & Moy" did I realize that this was the ship she was working on escorting groups for Page & Moy. I am sure I will hear from her when she arrives back home in England. Glad to hear that no one was injured but it's a shame that the cruise had to be cancelled.

Hi

Some of the passengers on the Ocean Monarch at the time of the collision are far from happy.

They had been notified at 10.00 pm on the day of the collision, that the cruise was cancelled, and told they were to leave the ship at 8.00am the next morning.

They say that it then took 27 hours to get back home to the UK which included a five hour stop for a sleep at a hotel.

Page and Moy have only offered them a 50% refund with which they are far from happy as the accident happened on the forth day of an eleven day cruise.

This refund is totally unacceptable they say !

These commente are posted on the Dooyoo.Co.Uk website comments page for Page and Moy.

Page and Moy and Travelspere are the same group and the final comment is not to book with them.

Neil ( Bob )

Got an e-mail from me friend, who is still on the ship and I can't figure out which day they left. .

At approx. 4pm that day after various inspections from the coast guard we were allowed to sail to Alesund were we are now undergoing repairs.

I believe they left for Iceland yesterday (Saturday) for their next cruise on August 13th (tomorrow).
The company has had to cancel over 100 guests and the crew has been lightened by about 60 just so that they can sail as they will be one life boat short, which will not arrive until Liverpool.
