Carnival Splendor looks almost finished from the outside, I agree that she is not a new-class but just a modified Conquest-class ship. Here is the Splendor's official web-site, in the pictures section look at pictures 26-30.

Okay, not a big Carnival fan here (do the like Spirit class however), but this is a vast improvement fromt he Destiny/ ETC class. The new funnel looks great and the back end is much cleaner. I just hope they have improved the flow on the inside.

I'm not much of a Carnival fan either but I do agree that it is an improvement, however, I was hoping for a whole new different class from Carnival. The flow here pretty much stays the same as on the Conquest-class, this is just like Costa Concordia/Serena, at least the plans look the same.

Carnival Splendor is exactly similar to Concordia and Serena (except for the funnel), which are exactly similar to the Conquest class (except for the Spa), which is identical to the Destiny class (except for some extra cabins at above the bow and a few meters extra mid section).

I completely agree. The thicker funnel works much better than the tall one used on the earlier ships.

Looks like the blue boot topping needs to be extended down a little but that may be done later in the fitting out process.

Overall I like the subtle design differences. I really like the fatter funnel, and the aft end is better as well. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the aft end.

There are some differences between SPLENDOR and CONCORDIA.
1. The funnel
2. Aft pool is open and no glass dome
3. Cabins aft of the spa have balconies instead of picture windows.
4. The lido restaurant extends out over the sides more so than on CONCORDIA.
5. General arrangement of lounges.

I'm booked on SPLENDOR next July. It's time to return to Carnival again.

I've reserved the circumnavigation of South America onboard this ship in Feb/March 2009. I certainly hope that a certain Mr Farcus can control himself when designing the interior as 49 days of any of his recent ships just may be too much to bear. The itinerary and the price overruled my concerns however.

I am booking despite the ship design - not because of it - I wonder how many people feel the same way about Carnival?

There are several here who think Carnival is a good choice. Their newbuilds have cabins w/restrained relaxing decor-more in line w/other lines and the food and service are suppose to be quite good.

Now the decor of the public rooms is another story but that may add to the fun-at least you don't have to sleep in them!
