The 'Transocean Tours' brocure came through my letterbox today. It will be nice to see Marco Polo at my local port, Tilbury in 2008.

Some of the prices for the lower grade cabins are well under my £100 per day rule.

I don't think the cruises are faetured on their web site yet.

I got mine yesterday

The renderings are nice. I was half afraid they may take away the blue hull, but only changing the funnel livery. She'll look good. The itins are nothing special, but nice to see her here again and I am sure the Celtic itin will appeal to some over the pond as much as the fjord and Iceland trips. Off to the Caribbean too on a nice long one.

MARCO POLO will be a good addition to the Transocean fleet though far spacious compared to ARIELLE.

Are Transocean maketing this in UK ditrectly? I had a brochure today from Newmarket travel ie Reader offers in the newspspers. A couple of cruises interest us as my wife will no longer fly long distances. Do these people & Transocean have a good reputation?. Eric

I'm not sure, but they have been around a long time so they must be doing something right? They are based in Bremen Germany, with UK representation in Dartford Kent.

Tilbury (sorry, the London International Cruise Terminal) pays host to a number of smaller/older ships each year offering 'budget' cruises. These offer a 2-3 star cruise experience. This is normally reflected in the lines fares. Most 4-5 star cruise ships generally cruise from Dover, Harwich or Southampton.

If I cruised from Tilbury, it would primarily be to experience a 'classic' ship. The Marco Polo certainly appeals to me too.

Transocean is operating Arielle (ex Airtours Carousel) this year, from Tilbury.

Transocean do market directly in the UK through South Quay Travel & Leisure who will gladly provide all the brochures [details from the link]. Nice brochures too. You can book these cruises through any ABTA agency, though not all may keep supplies of the brochures. I have not booked one myself, but have obtained quotes from my usual TA[s] with no problem.

Transocean have been around for years; since 1954 according to their website, so not a fly by night and do seem to have a regular clientele albeit small compared to other cruislines. I have never booked 'readers offers' as always found better deals using a normal TA when just querying. If you like the itin, go for it.

Last year I made a cruise to the north cape on board the Arielle. I was verry happy about the food,the atmosphere and the low prices on board. With the Marco Polo being a better ship than the Arielle it should be perfect.

Thanks Malcolm, Pam & Johan for the info. I liked some of the itinerarys & enquired from a TA I have used before & went ahead & booked the July 30th cruise round Ireland & UK. Some unusual ports of call, hope the weather behaves for us. Also an attraction was the fact that the date will not interfear with our new grandparenting duties & will cover our anniversary (no49). Eric
