Millenium will entered in drydock from 3 to 20 april at Brest, France to add a new engine.
The new Wärtsila 16 V 38 B, power 11.5 MW will permit to reduce fuel consumption.
Indeed, the new engine will be use for on board energy and power energy at slow speed.

Aker Yard France (Loreint and Saint-Nazaire) supervise the work.

Constellation will be modified in may (2-18)

So they are going to cut a large hole in their side, remove a large portion of side shell and double bottom, and add a new portion of side shell and double bottom that presumeably has been strengthened for the new engine sets. Neat.

Just like they did when they converted QE2 from steam to diesel, which was on a much larger scale!

Thats what I thought too. I didn't even know they did it that way by cutting a hole in the side.

I just went back and looked at the conversion photos, and you're right--the machinery on QE2 was replaced through the top. Now I can't remember which vessel was converted through the sides--old age is creeping up on me!

Maybe you were thinking of Black Watch? Her's were replaced with a hole cut in the side at Bremerhaven.

ss Nieuw Amsterdam had 'new' boilers installed through a large cut in her side in the late 1960s.

I'm on he Constellation on the 2/06/07 Baltic States from Dover, I hope she wil be ready and that they do not encounter any problems with the maintenance.

I see on one of the Celebrity message boards that it is possible that they will be returning the Cirque de Soleil bar 'the bar at the edge of the earth' to it's original glory. If this is so does anybody know if this will be done during the time in dry dock fixing the pods. I do hope so, for me this monstrosity of a bar slightly spoils what is a stunning ship.
