Hi everyone, just seen on News 24 the arrival of QM2 into Sydney, yet another port that has "stopped" to witness her grand entrance...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/6377633.stm

Certainly a spectacular sight, and look forward to seeing the firework display (albeit on TV!) when the QE2 joins her later in the day.

Andrew

Andrew I watched it on main lunchtime news around 1.25pm today (both ships) & watched same thing again tonight on BBC south local news tonight. If you wonder why I am watching south news up here in Norfolk on Sky TV, well you have Sally reporting from HMS Endurance in the Antarctic this week! Eric

I am surprised there are not more pics posted of the QE2 in Sydney...I am sure she has been there before, but wasnt there supposed to be some big-to-do with her and the QM2 meeting and saluting or being in close proximity that allowed for some other photo ops?

That picture brings back memories.......when I was in teens,on my first visit to Sydney, the building behind QM2's front mast was the tallest building in town.(AMP building) .Now,and not that many years later, here is a ship, just as tall.

Eh? The building in front of QM2's mast isnt AMP, its Aurora Place built like 3 years ago.

Its a pity QM2 had to depart leaving Sydney with such a sour taste, probably thanks to Mr. Iemma!

Indeed, the 6pm BBC Local news impressed me last night with a long footage of the QM2 meeting the QE2 in Sydney!
So exciting, can't remember which one was there already, but managed to tape it!
Seeing QM2, all lights ablaze passing the narrows at dawn, then QE2 responding with her stunning horn!
What a day it must have been for those down under shiplovers!
QM2 was seen turning by the bridge, which seemed about to collapse with the weight of shiplovers on it!
I bet it was all arranged and wonder if a toll was levied that day?
What a coup by Cunard, who seems to understand its public!
I wish I was there!

It would have been nice if QM2 and QE2 was in SF on the same day, even better if we had fireworks,
nice arrival in Sydney.

Read the post more carefully. He wasn't talking about the building "in front of QM2's mast". He was talking about the building "behind QM2's front mast". i.e the short one partially obscured by QM2's front mast.

No that one is Hudson building and Governor Phillip Tower. I think he meant in front of QM2's funnel, that is the AMP building
