3,652-Passenger Vessels Scheduled to Enter Service in 2009 and 2011
MIAMI (February 9, 2007) – “Carnival Dream” and “Carnival Magic” are the names Carnival Cruise Lines has chosen for its two 130,000-ton SuperLiners scheduled to enter service in October 2009 and June 2011, respectively.
Representing a new class of vessel for the line, the 3,652-passenger “Fun Ships” will be the largest in Carnival Cruise Lines’ fleet and offer a host of innovative on-board amenities and facilities.
“Carnival has earned a reputation as a cruise industry innovator by continually upgrading its product and introducing new and exciting features. Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic will epitomize ‘Today’s Carnival,’ offering the widest variety of dining, activity and entertainment options in our fleet,” said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president and CEO.
Including Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic, Carnival Cruise Lines has four new ships on order, all of which are being built by Italy’s Fincantieri shipyard. The first of these, the 110,000-ton Carnival Freedom, is slated to debut in Europe March 5, 2007; the 112,000-ton Carnival Splendor is scheduled to enter service in July 2008.
It's interesting how so many different cruise companies use the same ship name, with only the name of the brand in front of the name as the differentiator. You would think they would want to be more original and stand out in the crowd. I guess not.

You would think that the cruise lines would use original names to differentiate their brands, but no! Only Celebrity seem to be coming up with interesting names.

Yeah but this ship will carry 3652 passengers and the Freedom class of RCI has 18 less passengers on a larger ship. Sounds just like another cattle call to me. I detest the Destiny/Conquest class as they are nothing more than a cattle call ship. Crowded and a very poor design. I doubt that this ship will be much better.

I too wonder if these new ships will truly be a new design, or just another derivative of the Destiny/Conquest Class? Every time Carnival makes a slight change to an existing design, they call it something completely new even when it really isn't. The Destiny/Conquest Class got it's start over 10 years ago and it's really time for something new.
I'm also concerned at how crowded these new ships will be. 130,000 gt with 3652 passengers equals a space ratio of 35.6. Not so great when compared to other new ships, even existing ships in the Carnival fleet.
By comparison, the FREEDOM OF THE SEAS actually carries 18 fewer passengers (as you mention) but at 160,000 gt has a very respectable space ratio of 44.0.
I hope these new ships don't turn out to be cattle call duds.
CARNIVAL FESTIVALE actually sounds good!

Seems they are possibly falling behind the same as Princess did in the 80s - they lost out to Carnival on Holland America (Jeffrey Sterling was not a happy man that day) they only caught up by buying Sitmar with their new ships on order.
In the summer of 1988 I worked for Princess. They aquired Sitmar around July/August. I can still remember the excitement about this among the crew. It was a day we were docked in Katchikan. Things went fast. In September we met up with the former Fairsky now called Sky Princess at sea in full Princess livery.
Carnival obtained HAL in November that year. I was not aware Sir Jeffrey was after them too. An interesting though what Princess would have done with HAL. the new Rotterdam Princess perhaps? Or Nieuw Amsterdam being renamed in Prinses Irene ;-))
