What a sight berthed stern to stern! CT'er 31 knots has sent me some photos for posting. The weather doesn't look good though, hope it clears up for the fireworks later.

It's horrible. It wasn't too bad until the rain started. But we got fed up waiting for Oriana so came home to warm up and dry off. The fireworks are still meant to be going ahead according to VTS. No sign of that rain stopping though. In fact the weather forecast said it would get heavier. Rosie is so dark you can hardly see her even with the lights on. Ruby has more lights so a but better to see.

Those are great pics. I changed my mind about going on the ferry but wish I had now. Why do they have different registrations?

I'm undecided about going back out. On the one hand it's vile out there and I can't fight my umbrella any more. On the other it's probably the only time they'll be together this end. Oh well. I already have a cold. Bit of flu won't make any difference. Why can't ship spotting be a nice warm hobby?

I was wondering that too. They are beautiful ships. I really want to go on them. Are they going to servive solas 2010?

Its funny to me the weather there in Southamton. In Los Angeles we get so little rain every year and even when we do it last only for a few hours and its never that hard. I love the rain its probably one of my favorite types of weather. I even love to go out in it.

OK back to ships. Are they the same inside as when they were with Cunard?

Huh?? We can get some really hard rains in January through March. England on the other hand (like Seattle) can be grey and miserable for months on end-with barely any sun. I remember my friends Mom who lives in Yorkshire telling me 'Well day 45 w/out sun!'.

That's why the Queen Mary has not rotted away yet.

I was in LA a couple of years ago, between Christmas and New Year. It rained for several days and all day! It must be the British curse?

Not in Pasadena at least. It rains hard occasionally but hardly ever. The last time I remember getting really bad hard rain ws a few years ago when we had all those freak storms that caused all those land slides. I am not in CA right now but I heard that it has been raining lately there. Here in Louisiana it rains harder then I had ever seen it CA every few weeks. People here think I am weird for being impressed by the rain here. To them its normal but me I can't ever remember seeing such hard rains. But your right we do sometimes get hard rains in LA but not a lot.

Are kids allowed on the Saga ships?

Andrew, you were in the right place! It was absolutely horrible out there. It was lovely meeting gaz. He's really nice and I am looking forward to chatting with him more on Connie. I gave up with my umbrella in the end. Too many of my pics have rain spatters from it.

Also the best firework of the night lighting up everything came out blurred because I was shivering. The display was better than Tuesday. It was a shame Rosie switched her funnel light off. Have to sort through my pics now but I'll do that tomorrow.

Cunard Fan, now they aren't. You have to be over 50 (or 40 is you're accompanying someone over 50).

hope you are warmed up now patsy, i am still thawing. will have to dust off my hot water bottle and warm up the cocoa. it could be worse though, we could be battling through the bay of biscay on a tiddly little liner.

I'm getting there, gaz. I don't envy those pax tonight. They're probably glad to get away from this weather. Would have been nice is they'd smuggled us aboard. We could pretend we're over 50.

I uploaded the pics tonight instead. There were more rotten ones that I'd realised thanks to the weather. They look fine on the screen.

I've got 3 years before I qualify as a companion but everyone I know over 50 doesn't want to go. Sob. I have 3 years to work on them.

Those were some of the best. You should see the amount I had to delete. My dad was filming and I have no idea what that's come out like. Better with luck!

Lovely photos...they are as beautiful and graceful as they were many years ago when Norwegian America Lines built them both. How lovely Sagafjord (Saga Rose) was when she was new. I was fortunate to "meet" her first when she was just drawings on paper and I was on her sister the Bergensfjord. To see her finished was a delight.

So why is Saga Ruby registerred in the UK and her older sister in the Bahamas?

Those two have the most beautifully shaped sterns. It is ashame that elegant feature is no longer a part of cruise ship design.

Stunning photos of two equally stunning ships! I hope both these ships are around for years to come. They are without doubt two of the best kept classic liners in existence today. It's hard to think of a more graceful ship and it's wonderful they are in such good hands. A company that actually appreciates them and does more than just exploit them for marketing purposes (QE2 comes to mind). Frankly I would sail on either over QE2 any day.

Cunard Fan......these two ships have been greatly remodeled inside and are without doubt the best they have ever looked. And yes, I think they will pass SOLAS 2010. I hardly think Saga would have invested so much for so short a time.

It really seems as if they - especially Vistafjord - look better than ever.
Especially in her early Cunard days she was less impressive - to stay polite.

A friend was on Ruby in December & I quote his comments on the alterations. "small raised splash pool with Lido extended out over proper pool area", "small sundeck at top gone & replaced by a high tech gym, ?what use to over 50's, new lift from lido to gym did not encourage gym use". not sure if he is talking about changes done on the hand over from Cunard or since then. We sailed on both ships with Cunard & felt Sagafjord was a much better experience than Vistafjord. Eric

Rubbish pictures more like thanks to that flipping rain. I feel rotten today and ache all over, especially my hand and arm from fighting the umbrella in the wind. I hope gaz is feeling better than I am. I'm looking forward to a nice rest before it all kicks off again in April with either Ocean Village 2 arriving first or Millennium.

Those are excellent by 31 knots. Very wise not going out last night even though the fireworks were great. It was worth it but not the sneezes afterwards.

I was thinking about how we talk about how almost all of todays ships are clones. Well these ships are very I dentical to each other too but the word clone is never used for them. They just seem to have so much character and individuality that the word just doesn't apply.

Like Oriana and Aurora they have similarities but also differences internally and externally so aren't the same as a lot of today's ships. It's easier to tell them apart. They're lovely little ships and I hope they do go on past 2010.

They are indeed similar. The former Sagafjord has a few more curves than the newer former Vistafjord. The interior layout is also a bit different w/the newer ship having her dining room on a higher deck w/large windows. The older ships lovely two deck high dining room was originally an inside space but had windows installed in the 1980s. The Saga Ruby (ex Vistafjord of 1973) was the last truly beautiful passenger ship built IMO. The days of sheer, curved steelwork, graceful sterns etc. was coming to an end by the mid 1970s.
