As promised a few months ago, I have finally posted three albums from our med cruise on the IS back in July, for anyone who may be interested.

I should point out that our cabin 3048 was one of the ex-crew cabins on Aqua deck.

I'm off on the Constellation on the 27/11/06 Ultimate Caribbean so really looking forward to that.

I hope the link works as it is my first time of posting photos

Thanks for the photos. The ship looks very attractive .... even better than her Celebrity days. I love the cabin with the double portholes.

Excellent photos Clive, many thanks for posting them. She certainly looks a lot nicer than in some other pictures I've seen.

Have a wonderful time on Constellation, and hope we see some pics of her too

I am wondering what her capacity is now that they are using former crew cabins? Does anyone know the capacity with Celebrity and her present capacity? Does she feel crowded? Has anything been done about her poor seakeeping ability? Thanks.

She has a dbl capacity of 1506 -vs- 1354 in her Celebrity days; I doubt that the addition of 150 berths would make her feel crowded.

In terms of seakeeping, I'm wondering what makes you think her abilities are/were poor? I sailed her many times as Horizon and although she rode 'hard', she always took heavy seas well as she was designed specifically for the punishing NY-Bermuda run.

Tim....
I only took the Zenith once to Bermuda and thought that it had the poorest seakeeping of any ship I've sailed....and I've sailed many. Perhaps you or others may disagree, but that has been my experience.

Thanks Enroller and Pam,

Yes the double portholes of that cabin did make for a light and airey feel.

And Pam as I posted in the main post of Mec 1 on the 10-16-2006, Kev and myself really enjoyed our week on her, not a premium product by any stretch, but with her open decks and very personable crew, not too bad at all.

Will lug the cameras to the Carib and see if we take a few worth posting, when are you off on the Classica?

Her interiors are cool..Her exteriors are showing up her age though. I just do not like her livery and what crap they did to her funnel....painted the X to match with the grill.why not take out the X on the whole ....Nothing is like Horizon in black and white.they destroyed her appearance!

Thanks for the pics! I sailed on the Horizon in 1990 and 1991. Back then I had previously only sailed on the Oceanic and other Chandris ships so naturaly when I first cruised the Horizon a decade and a half ago I was blown away. When compared to other ship's in her day she was very stylish IMO. I am sad Celebrity let both ships depart the fleet they COULD have done what they did with the Century to these ships. Sadly, I have to agree with the poor seakeeping ability of these ships. Actually I can't talk for the Horizon but I sailed the Zenith in 98 and she was still looking fairly good. In '05 I did a travel agent tour of her and was very disapionted. Some public rooms looked new and the rest of the ship look very worn (and I am not picky). There were so many stains in the canins I visited. Rust on the marble in the suite bathrooms very worn carpets in the hallways. She looked very tired. Its a shame these were two lovely ladies but I am glad they are given another lease on life. But I wish they could get rid of the X!!! Maybe it supports the funnel?

Support the funnel? LOL NO, no , no! How could a 2 or 3 inch piece of steel shaped in an X support an alot of tonnes funnel? The point is that Island Cruises were lazy and did not want to spend the extra money to have it removed.

I was on Zenith from the shipyard to the States. Ten days to cross the Atlantic because the captian didn't want to press the engines too much as she was brand new. Zenith did ride somewhat rough, and my theory is the rounded bow would slam into the waves, causing the ship to shutter. Zenith was NOT built for the harsh weather cruising, rather she was built for the lazy Caribbean. I was very impressed with the Zenith when I first saw her.

I think it was mentioned sometime during the conversion that the X could not be removed as it did indeed form part of the funnel structure? It is a lot more than a few inches, more like a few feet, and top to bottom of the funnel. Clive's photo shows this well:-

Unfortunately it is very prominent. The other day I glanced at Genova webcam in the early morning fog.. the ships were mostly obscurred, but I could make out the 'X' and wondered which Celeb vessel was there.. when the fog lifted.. Island Star.

A bit more disguising is in order I think.

On the whole we were quite impressed with her outward appearance, but the badly disguised X does make the ship look a bit bodged. Unfortunarely it is more obvious when you are right next to her than it appears on the photos.

I agree, when she was berthed in my home town this summer, I couldn't focus on anything but this X.

I think that i might very well have to agree with you Pam. On closer inspection, the X does look like part of the funnel. Because the white horizontal metal bars do not go right through to the back of the funnel. I previously thought that they just had a cage and the X was just welded on. I think if they move the X some very big holes will be left in the funnel on both sides.
