Since Norwegian Pearl has left the shed i think it is appropriate that we focus our attention more on AIDA Diva since she is the more 'finished' of the ships in the building hall. She is progressing really well.........take a look at her here....They are building some structure on top the forward sun deck...i'm not sure what it is but i just hope that it is not staterooms....she is top heavy enough for that ... It´s not staterooms, but fundaments for the retractable roof over the spa.

Of course there is a webpage - www.aida.de.

Aida is VERY well known in Germany - concerning ships probably only QM2 is coming close.
Neverthless, they are targeting a very specific (German speaking) audience - so there is only this English subpage.

Ok, I'm relived now... I thought I had hallucinations.
More seriously, I wonder if the Aida experience is similar to what can be found in UK with Ocean Village for example.

BTW, it's surprising to see that there's no such "club ships" available on the american market. Among the 9 Millions American cruisers, a few dozens of thousands of them should be likely to enjoy those kind of vacations...

What do our American Cruise Talkers think about this ?

Not having been on an Aida ship and striclty speaking not being an American CT member I am sure that the Aida expierience is VERY different to the mainstream 'American' cruise. Genereally it seems that this kind of vacation is less know in the U.S.

No one seem to notice the unconventional design of the radar mast on the Aida Diva rendering. What do you guys think. It is not the normal kind of mast that you would expect to see on a cruiseship like diva.

It seems as if the AIDA DIVA has been pushed back further down into the building hall or the webcam moved or there is a new one because now there is a whole webcam shot of her from her bow! very interesting. I am not sure what they are trying to do with the radar mast.
The Funnel Is installled already too!See Here

Well Well Well ...Aida has done it again with her stern! Aida is known for producing beautiful sterns of their ships! No disappointment this time.

But i have now stumbled upon a few interior renderings of Aida Diva!

Another all-but-nonexistent bow! I do not like this design trend.

I would say, "Is there no end to this?" but one would suspect a pun.

Another Non exixtent bow?...She has a bow...it is not as long as i was hoping for but it isnot bad. Remember Diva is a cruiseship and not a liner so she will not have a long bow. If she did, her proportions would be terrible...You see how heavy she is at the top?..a shorter bow suits this not a longer one.

Seeing her take shape, she looks much nicer than in the renderings. My first thought when Aida released the renderings, I thought it was simply current AIDA ships with more decks.

Yes, it is a volelyball/basketball/squash court and a jogging track which encompasses the court and funnel.

You can see all on the AIDA website. If you want to read the info in English then go here.

What is an 'American' or "English' cruise? Seabourn is American as well as Carnival - Hebridean and Fred Olsen would both pass as English....

I am nevertheless sure that some here who have been aboard Aida cen give you an awnser - Aida offers a 'club' vacation - a lot of animation - very informal atmosphere.

If I were still 20 or 30 something and German I think I would have fallen for the AIDA concept in a big way. I am none however, but I have enjoyed from time to time browsing through the AIDA-Fans website and also see here.

Is there not a single CT'er who has been on an AIDA cruise? There appears to be a huge following in Germany.

Having never been on one or met anyone who has, I can only offer my impressions from the websites, that these are informal cruises along the Ocean Village lines, but ones which have sucessfully hit their target market of young affluent Germans, who wish to enjoy life and outdoor pursuits. [ie Not the UK market of anyone who wants the cheapest thing sailing regardless that OV seems to attract].

I don't think one would find many or even any 'nearly deads' on an AIDA cruise, but more likely the well to do younger generations out to enjoy themselves without becoming 'loutish'. Young 'AIDAs' are also welcome.

I would love to know for sure what the AIDA club is all about as I love their ships. I am not too keen on the lips, but love the rest and especially the sterns I have seen. As to AIDAdiva, I am not sure whether she has the same lovely stern as the others... yet.. only when I see the real completed ship will I make comment

I think AIDA has a niche market which has been successfully nurtured over the years and is 'closed' to the outside world.

My impressions only.. I may well be very wrong! and would love some real insight.

Pam

They are not my 'cup of tea' - but I followed what they do - and I have seen the extensive documentary TV series shot abard. (which I believe contributed a lot to their popularity)

OH NO! Aida is a very nice product - serving their niche extremly well - but it certainly is a maintstream product (nothing wrong with that!) - geared towards a CERTAIN audience. One can not say that they appeal to ALL young people (oh no!) - nor are their passengers 'wealthy'. It is probalby fair to compare them to Carnival - it is not the same but 'equivalent'.

I am not so sure about that. I do not want to impute anything - but extensive parties are part of the cliche of this kind of vacation (there is of course more to a (proper) 'club' vacation!) - and again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. (I assue Aida to be more on the civilized side compared to some extreme resorts ashore)

Aida is indeed sucessful and their achievment is remarkable. Nevertheless, it is part of their sucess to serve a certain kind of audience. (nothing wrong with that)

AIDA targets specifically the German market...and as was said...provides an informal atmostphere.. I do not think that extremed Westerners..i:e.. Americans and c'bean region Latin America etc would fully enjoy an AIDA cruise..unless they speak German and enjoy informal with a very DIFFERENT atmosphere..
