QE2 is scheduled to visit Hobart on Saturday February 17, 2007 from 7 am to 6 pm.

You get a view of her,and other cruise ships sailing into Hobart, from this cam on top of Wrest Point Casino.

Great cam bmajor. So where in the view do the ships pass? Are they viewable once berthed? I have no idea on Hobart

I had a play with the cam - the panormama does not tie in with the actual view one gets.

Hi Pam,
Yes, its a great cam but you do have to control it to see the ships.During the season I followed a couple of ships in.The stretch of water is the Derwent River which runs up to the city and then under the Tasman Bridge. If you use the preset for the Bridge then pan to the left you will see the pier,a container wharf, where they berth and you can line the cam up to get a good view of the ship.
Usually ,when a cruise ship does call,whoever looks after the cam, will follow it up and down the harbour.
Interesting background note.......
the Tasman Bridge you can see is the one that was hit by an ore carrier a few years ago,resulting in the collapse of the bridge,several cars plunging off ,and several deaths.
It went under the wrong arch and did not have a pilot on board.The water there is very deep and evidently the ship, and all the ore, is still sitting on the bottom.
Hobart is a very beautiful city and the sail in and out on the Derwent is magic.It is a great port of call .

It's funny, there's is exactly the same webcam in Ajaccio, my hometown... And with both cams, I still don't understand why everything is written in Japanese.
Hobart seems to be a nice city and Tasmania landscapes amazing.

Nice panoramas Phil. To the right you can see Wrest Point Hotel Casino, Hobart's tallest building and to the far left the Tasman Bridge.

The Casino is Hobarts only tall building.
Thats why the town is so charming!!!!!

Thanks for all the great pictures and info, I have my bearings now.. I knew nothing about the bridge disaster, crumbs. There are quite a lot of supports there, so must be a tightish squeeze for some vessels?

Hobart looks a lovely city.

Thanks BMajor and Brian, i appreciate your help.
I was reading in a Sunday Tasmanian paper that when QE2 and QM2 are in Sydney together on Tues Feb 20 there will be a ferry cruise to view both ships, i`m really keen on booking a flight to Sydney, but i`m recovering from a motorcycle accident, and may require further surgery, so i`d probably be out of action around that time. At least i could see QE2 in Hobart though.
