Searching for research on Aker-Yards I came up to this encyclopedia, which i've used for other projects not concerning cruise ships. Here's what it said about Genesis:
quote:
Like the Freedom class, the Genesis class ship will be built by Aker Finnyards in Finland. It will be 1,180 feet (360 meters) long, able to carry 5,400 passengers, and have a gross tonnage of 220,000. At US$1.2 billion (EUR 900 million) the first Genesis ship reportedly will be the most expensive civilian ship ever built. [1] The ship is projected to have a bowling alley, a billiards lounge and a petting zoo along with a 5 story dining room, and a longer promenade.

The next step in martime disasters : Tigers in the dining room ! (may be fun, I love cats).

And what next, a show with elephants skating on the ice rink ?

I don't know whick kind of smoke is venting from RCI headquarters, but that is really, really, really n'importe quoi ! (sorry, but I haven't found an precise equivalent in English for what I mean).

There is a step from what we read to what we see.
Remember Genesis is in it's design process. I have examined the large picture of Genesis trying to find hints on what it will have, so far I have counted 3 dining room levels and some kind of pool aft, if it has a Flow-rider, it will not be located in the place where it is on FR since there is limited space given to the what I think is the golf simulators, the front to me will be something like Costa Victoria. I have drawn a few pictures but have not yet scanned them, Malcom can you post them if send them to you?
I think I expect great things from Genesis, I'm sure RCCL designers will do a great job.

A petting zoo ! Innovation is great but why should a load of animals be subjected to up to 6000 people pulling and grabbing at them, I sincerely hope this doesn't happen it is outright cruel. In todays world of air travel etc. you want to see a sheep go to a farm, you want to see an elephant come to Africa. I am sure this is a joke - please. The rest sounds great - just what you would expect on an oversized Vof the Seas ! Credit to them except the zoo. Doesn't suit everyone (inc me) but for those who want it this should be great. How much longer before the "Empire" (Carnival) strikes back we wonder ?

How do you build bigger than the Genesis and save money - string 2 together with one towing the other ? A caravan of cruising. Only hotel staff needed and you tender every port, connect the 2 with a bridge ?

With her animals, Genesis will already look like a circus caravan.

Bowling alley.. sounds intresting, billiards, there on Radiance. PETTING ZOO!!!! Yikes! With 5400 people I dont think this will be a good idea, but who knows, we all had our doubts about the flowrider on Freedom so just wait and see.

Can any one find that concept drawing of Genesis? I kinda forgot what it looks like besides that area in the stern.

For the 5,400 people onboards, is that the max capacity?

I personally still have my doubts about the flowrider (too much space for only one person at the time).

No, it's "only" the double occupancy capacity.

A PETTING ZOO?!?!?!?!

Have they lost the little sense they were born with? A bunch of animals bumping around in a big tin box. I can see it now: "mommy look at the puking elephant." Honestly, I feel bad for the animals.

And I suppose the 5 story dining room is to accomodate the giraffes?

Don't laugh, untill the XIXth century, almost each ship had its cow for fresh milk. By the way, wasn't there a story with Cunard Britannia (not sure...) ? Something about a cow falling in the dining room after the ceiling had collapsed.

I have not found the petting zoo thing anywhere else, my guess is that the article, from a well known internet encyclopedia is BULL.

It happened during a storm--the cow actually was thrown through the skylight into the cabin saloon.

We have the Flowrider here in Minneapolis and there are lines that form on each side of the flowrider....each person will usually only ride it for an average of 1 minute, many fall off right away...it really is a cool thing to watch and everyone gets a turn without too much of a wait.
Check out a photo of our Flowrider in Minneapolis.
