Has there been any new information about the new SOLAS ships for American Cruise Line? It's really rare these days to be building small ships. Can't wait for a rendering.

Heres the link to their press release.

I believe i read somewhere that they are going to be built outside the US and non-US registered.

UPDATE:
from Seatrade Insider:
quote:
New Pearl Seas brand signs for 2 ships
21/9/2006
Pearl Seas Cruises, an offshore affiliate of American Cruise Lines, signed agreements to build two luxury passenger ships for international service.
The company ordered the 166- and 210-passenger vessels from Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax. The first ship is scheduled to enter service in July 2008 and the second in June 2009.

The news follows American Cruise Lines chief executive Charles Robertson’s announcement at Seatrade Miami in March of the company’s intention to enter the international market.

The first Pearl Seas Cruises ship will launch with sailings in the Canadian Maritimes, Newfoundland and New England, followed later in the year with Caribbean itineraries.

Pearl Seas Cruises said each of the new vessels will be equipped with a spa, a single-seating dining room with panoramic views, several lounges and a well-stocked library. An elevator will serve all five decks.

Suites will feature balconies, and all rooms will offer flat-screen satellite TV and DVD player, as well as Internet access.

The ships will be powered by Caterpillar diesel engines, and Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine will supply the wing stabilizers.

That side few isn't very impresive. I thought it would be like seadream or seabourn with all the world cruises they were talking about.

i would have thought they would build bigger ships here
in conneticut at a bridgeport
shipyard.
with the draft at only 10 ft.
i would say these are not offshore vessels. iguess we can rule out bermuda.
sad to say that nothing was
reported in any of the connecticut newspapers.

Many of us complains about the fact that there are no new small ships built.
I think we should be happy of happy of this project, even if it won't be the finest looking ship afloat.

The 2 vessels are to be capable of sailing rtw, with Open Sea Classification, not coastal vessels restricted to so many miles offshore.

From Lebelty's link above..
"The company is considering various itineraries that may include British Isles, Mediterranean, Baltic, Alaska, South America and Pacific..."
