I loved this ship as the Homeric, I sailed her when she was with Home Lines. Anyone notice, or know why when she was stretched, they could not match her cabin windows with the original ones, the new ones are larger and look strange in comparison

Thanks for the pictures Pam.

I noticed on the funnel, there is a curve indent to the left of the "C"...is that from Homes Lines?

It is good to see her back in the white and yellow, as I never thought the HAL blue hull suited her, but I think she needs the blue stripe she had as Homeric..

Jeff, the photos alongside Costa Europa were taken from a harbour trip. These run regularly from the centre every half hour or so for €4 and lasts 35', see Las Golondrinas for the routes and timings in Nov. They run all hours in the summer, but reduced in the winter months.

The photos of Artemis were taken from the roof terrace of the Eurostars Grand Marina hotel, the harbour trip and also the 1st floor level of the World Trade Centre. The WTC has 'lookouts' to all sides/angles from the 1st level, so any ships berthing there are very close. No problem with access... [however you are not permitted to take photos of the models inside the WTC, of which there are a number.. I got told off by a security guy for trying to snap a model of an MSC container vessel! yet 50ft away I could take as many photos of 3 real ships as I liked].

One can also take pics from the port cable car [this is slow and pricey, but great views], the towers, the cable car station on Montjuic and then from Montjuic Castle [Military Museum but you don't need to go in the museum to access the parapets etc]. these are all good spots, as is Mare Magnum for the Barcelona Nord and Drassanes Ferry berths.

There is a great port map here. The cruise ship calls are here, with the berths also listed, so you can plan your route. if you want details of the buses/metro etc to use to get to the places mail me.

If you want a long walk I also believe you can walk over the Europa Bridge and along Adossat Wharf [the sea side], but I have not tried that. It is tempting to jump on the port buses from the Columbus Monument, but I think one gets better views from elswhere. Maybe BCN Normandie can advise on that.

Those interested in interior photos, I have visited COSTA EUROPA on 3 July 2004 and that photoalbum can be accessed via my website.
Unfortunately, for this album you still have to register with Kodakgallery.

Jeff those models were made by Sextant. The company went out ouf business, but another line Optatus has bought the molds and is slowly re-introducing them. I think teh Westerdam mold, which the C. Europa is painted from, is to be brought out sometime this fall. Not sure about when the Homeric should come out again though..

Thad..you and Linnerich keep teasing me with all of those models . Will we be able to buy those models online from this new company?? Or onboard?? Because if it's onboard in the gift shops, I'll never be able to get them all.

It's surprising how well this ship has aged. She has simple yet attractive lines, and I think her lengthening suits her well. I totally agree with the earlier post that said it's good to see her in (almost) Home Lines colors again. It would be interesting to see how the blue stripe would look.

On Pam's closer shot of the funnel, I'd bet that is probably the shadow of the Home Lines logo near the "C". I wonder if the former lettering could be seen on her bow?

When you look closer to the funnel, you can see where the HAL-logo was.

In 2004 there was no former lettering to be seen on the bow.

Well, while I do not mind the stretch, I still think her profile was more balanced prior to the stretch and in Home Line Colors with the blue stripe. Here she is in Hamilton with her older sister in front of her.

I thought that Home Lines was a blue circle with 3 crowns in it.

Home Lines was a blue circle with one crown in it. Swedish American Line was a lighter blue disk with three crowns it it. I have always thought Home Lines livery looked extermely smart....

First of all many thanks to Pam for the wonderful photos of the Costa Europa.
These are the first pics that I have seen with the new so called "grand suites" with private balconies.

I agree that the ship will look far better with a stripe on the hull, maybe the yellow and blue one of the old Costa livery.
