Hi Guys,

I have been going through my photos from my Sky Cruise Mel/Sin back in Feb and have these photos of a ship anchored off Singapore which i can't name! I took the below photo on 23 Feb, so don't know if it is still anchored there, but does anyone know its current or former names, or if it is in use at the moment?

From the lounge in the funnel it looks as though it may have been a Royal Caribbean ship in the past?

See more in album here

If anyone can shed any light i would be most appreciative! Thanks
Sydneyboy

Hi SydneyBoy,

The ship is indeed a former Royal Caribbean vessel, "Sun Viking" of 1972 to be exact. It now operates gambling cruises under the name "Omar III".

This also happens to be the vessel that Condo Cruise Lines apparently has acquired as their first residential ship. More info on that in other threads here at CT.

That is the old Sun Viking, my first cruise every. She is now the Omar III. Only one of the RCCL original sisters to keep her Viking Crown Lounge. She looked much better in white and blue.

Thanks for the picture and the walk down memory lane for me. A 16 year old had the time of his life back in 1982 aboard her!

Yes you are right.
She was named as Omar III in the past few years and operated as a gambling ship in HK.

But now, she was replaced by Asia Star, and she will become somthing like "The World"

Wow thank for posting that photo and it is great to see her.

However, it is upsetting to see her in those colours. I truly loved the original trio of RCI ships and would still continue to sail aboard them if they were around. I was on one of the final sailings of the Nordic Princes out of San Pedro. It was fantastic although I was quite sad to leave her.

I find the Sun Viking to have been one of the most beautiful ships at sea. I think my biggest disappointment is that I never sailed aboard her but have always dreamt to. I did sail aboard Song of Norway (my first cruise ever in 1987) and then the Nordic Prince and Song of America.

If I had the resources I would love to design the definitive photo album of these beautiful first three ships of RCI. All of my photos are poor print photos that would have to be scanned in. Does anyone know of a comprehensive site online detailing these classic, beautiful ladies?
