Here's a link to a BBC website story about another outbreak of norovirus on Black Prince: Article Here

This follows a previous outbreak in June. (I don't know if there were any virus-free cruises in between then and now.) The story says the next voyage will be delayed as the ship is disinfected.

Not a good year for BP....

In 2000 I cruise on Black Watch. The week before the ship had an outbreak of the virus. We embarked a few hours late while they 'fumigated' (or whatever the proper term is) the ship. I'm not aware there were any problems on our cruise.

Olsen have had this problem a number of times over the years. I think it may be due to the high age of the passengers, who are particularly susceptible.

Of course it can happen to any ship at any time or any building or aeroplane etc. I would not let it stop me cruising.

Malcolm we even got a letter before that cruise [2000 ] advising that if we were 'frail or susceptible' the cruise could be swapped for another at a later date... something like that, I probably still have it somewhere. AFAIWA there were no instances on our trip.

I think news of a vessel, school, hospital that has never had an outbreak would be more newsworthy these days Crumbs this used to be called a 2 day stomach bug, now it's big news even though the 2nd most commen ailment after the 'common cold' which people now seem to call flu ['cos they don't know what real flu is like]!

The hygene precautions on QE2 this past weekend have stepped up from what I saw previously. As well as being obsessive with the hand alcohol spray, immediately post meal sittings a steward with something looking like a weedkiller spray entered the lido and sprayed absolutely everything, carpets, chairs, windows, the lot.

No wonder the 'M' grade food tasted odd, they probably sprayed that too!

I once contracted either food poisoning or Noro. I don't know which, but it was definitely BIG news!
We were staying in a motel in Biloxi Mississippi. Fortunately, The loo was only a few steps from the bed. There were times I barely made it.

It was darn considerate for them to give advance warning and an opportunity to opt out. None of the "major" cruise lines do that. they definitely keep such occurences under tight wraps.

I read in the paper they had something similar at a resort in the Caribbean as well.

Good to hear on the QE2 they're going overboard with the spray. I'm still taking some with me though.

Some university professors are working with researchers in the medical center to be able to diagnose this virus quicker -- like at the point of entry someday. A local Houston TV station is looking for Houstonians who have gone through what is sounds like you did. Would you be interested in talking to the TV reporter about your experience? I think the more awareness that can be generated about these things, the quicker remedies will be discovered.
