Just returned from a wonderful 12 days cruise to the Baltic Capitals onboard the beautiful Norwegian Dream.
I will post a review soon, but I will give you some anticipations.
The Freestyle Cruising works quite well on the Norwegian Dream, even if this ship wasn't purpose built for this.Almost no lines outside the main restaurants.
The crew was really nice: everyone said you " hello " when I was passing in the corridors.
The ship was very clean.
My personal ratings.
Food: 4 stars.Entertainment: 4 stars.Service: 4 stars plus.Cabin: 4 stars.Itinerary: 4 stars plus.Price paid: 5 stars.
The weather was really warm in the Baltic: 32°Centigrades at St. Petersburg were a record !
I have seen so many cruise ships during the cruises: Regatta, Island Sky, Europa, Star Princess, Costa Magica, Seabourn Pride, Msc Lirica, Century, Amadea, Seven Seas Navigator, Frederick von Humboldt, Crystal Serenity, Boudicca.
I have taken photos of mostly of them: I will post them next week.
My next cruises will be onboard the Grandeur of the Seas (September 1 to 10) and the Costa Mediterranea (November 17 to December 2).... so many more opportunities to take new photos.
My experience on NORWEGIAN DREAM ranks as one of my worst. I still enjoyed myself because the ports were fantastic, but I was disappointed in almost every aspect of the cruise experience. I personally did not care for the ship (very dated and 80's looking) and the food and service were very uneven. Entertainment was a joke and I felt the upkeep was lacking. For instance our TV was masking taped to the table and the remote was falling apart. Not very attractive.
The biggest downer was Freestyle. I felt it didn't work on this ship. Every night there was at least a 15 minute line to speak with host and try to make a reservation, then up to an hour wait to actually get a table (at all restaurants). Yes, we like to eat at a peak time (8:30-9pm) but the entire purpose of Freestyle escaped me since it didn't seem "free" at all. It was more like P.O'd-Style Cruising! I have since sailed on purpose built Freestyle ships and did not experience any of the troubles I had on DREAM. Frankly I'm not sorry to see DREAM leave the NCL fleet in the next couple years.
