Hi Ct'ers, I am going to go on a 7 night Alaska with family and friends with a total of about 50 people, with calls to Juneau, Skagway, Victoria B.C, and Icy Strait Point, and also cruising through the beautiful Inside Pasage. I have cruised to Alaska before on the Mercury which I loved!!, and I have cruised with RCL before on one of the Voyager class ships. As for the destination and cruise line, I know what to expect, but it is the ship that I am clueless about. I have looked at the virtual tours at the RCL website, and kind of get the idea about the ship and it's public areas, but addtional info will be apperciated. THanks

Yes, I think so - as long as you are not expecting 'state of the art'.

The ship will feel familiar, as all RCI ships have similarities, yet it will be different to the Voyager class. It will feel a little more intimate, although it's hardly small. It will also feel very different from Mercury. After all, RCI are budget, Celebrity are upscale.

Vision is still my favorite. I can't speak about how she may be afected by wear and tear since I was on her in May of '98. But if she is maintained like the pictures I just saw of Legend of the Seas, she will still be beautiful.

Although cruise ships have advanced quite a bit since she was built, she was part of that renaissance...just wait till you see the atrium, theater and dining room. And you can't beat RCI's Viking Crown Lounges when it comes to views.

Since she does Alaska regularly shes close to us in the Bay Area...I have to revisit her.

That was no hurricane on the VI crossing. Just a little rough as it can be on the North Atlantic.

We were on the Vision of the Seas last April out of LA to Mexico.
I liked the layout of the ship although as some have noted it does show some signs of wear and tear mostly in the cabins....general condition is however good.
We had a rear balcony overlooking the stern just below the fitness centre...from a cabin point of view a good choice as it had a very large balcony with deck chairs.
I also like the layout of the Windjammer Cafe...food was not bad, the variety is quite good....especially deserts. The best I have actually ever had
Another thing we enjoyed was the indoor pool in the Spa....this was closed for kids, so it was very quiet and pleasant.
Generally I rate this ship between Carnival and NCL.
The Norwegian Jewel out of Barcelona this spring was however a tick better however it is probably unfair to rate this against the Vision as the Norwegian Jewel is a brand new ship.
You should enjoy it, no bad surprises are waiting for you...a good classical cruise ship with some nice plus points.
John

Reading all of your comments, I think I'll enjoy the cruise along with the ship, Vision is like earlier mentions, "renasaince ship", when all the trends came into place, a typical RCL ship, not the big huge Voyager class, or the newer Radiance, just in the middle. From the pictures I've seen online, I think one of my favorite places will be midship, the atrium, and the Windjammer which looks beautiful, the pool does look a little plain though.
