Did you notice that even though they both left Southampton on the same day, and both returned on the same day, one had completed a 108-day cruise and the other had been 110 days?
Must be a potential trivia quiz question there.

Based on start and end dates, they were both 109 day cruises but they travelled in opposite directions around the globe. It is the International Dateline (as mec1 correctly suggested) and the direction travelled across the line that account for the difference perceived by those on board the two ships. The calendar gets set back 1 day when crossing the line in an eastbound direction but gets set ahead 1 day when travelling westbound.
Another way of looking at it is as follows. The eastbound cruise was perceived by those on board to be 110 days but 24 of the days were only 23 hours long. The westbound cruise was perceived by those on board as a 108 days cruise with 24 days of those days being 25 hours long.
