Here are some webcam shots of Freedom of the seas, compared to Carnival Triumph and Navigator of the Seas, thank dmwnc for some of the shots too.

Now I can see the difference between a Voyager-class ship and Freedom of the seas.

Yes, it's so Big. It's bigger than all the othe ships. It makes the other ships look small with its big-ness.

I knew it would be big, I read about it, but its much more big than I expect. I thought the QM2 was big, but FOS is bigger. I mean how much bigger could it be - it really is that big. Only one word can sum her up: BIG

She indeed looks bigger than expected -
especially compared with her nearly sister. And surprisingly she also looks much better.

well Carlos for me she is essentially a Voyager class....all of them. They will just be bigger or longer than each other. I dont think that we can reemphasis this any more!

What I never understand is yhat if you had 'real' money, why would you want to cruise on a 'mass market' ship, even if your suite was enormous?

See I don't know... I really enjoy having some extra space in a cabin because it allows me to unwind or watch a movie or read a book in private, although I wouldn't go for something that BIG! Just a small sitting area is nice, and perhaps a balcony for air... By the same token, it isn't necessary and you can do without such a room.

There nothing wrong with wanting/booking a big cabin. My point was, why spend a fortune on a big suite on a mass market cruise ship? Why share a dining room with 1000 other people and eat the same mediocre food? Why share a cruise with 3000+ other people?

If you have that kind of money, but want a big ship experience, book a QM2 Duplex. You get fine food, in an intimate dining room and excellent service.

Better still book one of the small exclusive five star ships.

As said in another posing - there are people who want privacy. They need a quater which is big enough so that they do not have to leave it. This is more easily done on a big ship than on a small luxury ship.

Beside that, it is a way to compete with luxury vessels. Personally, I also would prefer a proper ship - but the advantage of the mass-maket suites is that they are really big - bigger than anything aboard any luxury vessel - and that for a pretty good price. This might very well be attractive for some people. And this has not necessarily something to do with being seen - Silverseas is not always in the Carribean - so why not taking a big suite on a mass market ship instead?

The other market for these suites are bigger parties like family reunions etc. - they get for more or less the same per person per diem rate their own suite.

Don not forget: You do not have to eat in the main restaurant - you can stay in your suite.

Hmm I'd like my space, but I need things to do on the ship as well, which is why I would definitely want to go on a mass market ship. That's just my reasoning, I'm sure others would see it differently, but those facilities aren't really available on other ships, especially the smaller five star ships, but of course they would appeal to a very different market. Sorry, I can rant and rant and rant and rant ... and rant =P

There is more 'organised' stuff to do onboard the QM2 that most ships, in my opinion. After all Cunard are master's at occupying/entertaining people on the Transatlantic crossings.

However, it does depend what you like to do. There's no 'Belly Flop' competitions or 'singing' waiters, I'm affraid tazza. Personally I'd rather listen to Bill Miller or a concord Pilot.

In comparison I've found NCL and RCI to be a bit lacking in the range entertainment options.

(tazza, Feel free to rant and rant, the rest of us do).

It does not look that much bigger to me. I know it is the biggest, but does two to three extra decks high and less longer than an olympic swimming pool make it that much bigger?

The Carnival ship looked just as high with the decks at the front.

Perhaps because Carnival Triumph´s air draft is higher than the RCI ships´.

I can explain exactly why people book suites on mass market ships. I offered my mother in law the choise of the cheapest cabin on a five star ship and a suite on a three star ship - she took the suite. She wanted to be able to show off to all the other passengers and boy did she!!!!

I've seen prices for Carnival oceanview staterooms cheaper than interior, perhaps the same thing can happend with suites, if it's cheaper I would get it. I don't think it works that way with RCI.

Yes to all questions- I love her 'big'-ness. Can't wait - but I have to wait. Until March 18, 2007. (darn it)
