Crown Princess gets a godmother
18/5/2006
Martha Stewart has been selected to serve as the godmother for Crown Princess. She will name the ship at New York’s Brooklyn Cruise Terminal during a June 14 ceremony.
The naming will be the first at the Brooklyn facility. That same evening the 3,080-berth Crown Princess will sail on its maiden voyage, kicking off a summer season of roundtrip nine-day Caribbean cruises.

Princess president Alan Buckelew called Stewart a ‘style icon’ who has had ‘more influence on how Americans entertain, cook and decorate and design in and around their homes than almost anyone in history.’

An influencial 'style icon'? So serving time is OK? Very poor choice imho.

She got caught and if she admitted what she did, she would not have gone to prison. The woman is a tough b****. Why not chose someone who contributes to the good of society?

I may seem a litte bit ignorant, but... I don't know who is Martha Stewart. As I have already heard her name in many english speaking shows, series and movies, I assume she is a popular kitcsh icon, a sort of female William Shatner... Am I correct ????

Not really. She is a brilliant driven woman who went from being a fashion model in the 1960s (during college), to a highly paid trader on Wall Street in the 1970s. She later opened her own catering company in the New York area and from there became a lifestyle icon in the States. Her credits include several cook books/lifestyle books, a magazine, a line of household items at a large chain store and several TV shows. She went to prison recently for selling a stock she had prior knowledge was about to fall in value. The person who purchased it through a broker lost over $200,000 (which is pocket change for her). She claimed ignorance but being a highly paid stock trader in her past, she knew exactly what she was doing and the jury agreed. She is in the process of rebuilding her reputation and very successful career.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Princess choose Leona Helmsley for the next God-mother. I can think of no one less deserving than Martha S.
