Hi Folks

Apologies for asking questions that I know have been asked many times before but you are the fountain of cruising knowledge and I need a little help for an upcoming cruise on the inside passage on the Volendam mid May.

1. Dress code - How many formal, informal and casual nights should we expect?
2. Is there a Captain's Cocktail party?
3. Is there a guest laundry onboard?
4. What shore excursions should we do?
5.Is it better value for money to get a taxi and do the excursions that way as there are 4 of us?
6. How cold should we expect it to be?
Any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks for your help
Elizabeth :

hey elizabeth....hope this help's.....no details to go on about just the answers to your question's
1: 2 formal nights on a 7 nighter, 3 informal and 2 casual( usually the first night and last night aboard)
2: yes a captains cocktail party will happen....though you might not see the captain depending where the ship is.....so you'll probably get the 1st officer
3: yes....most holland america ships have a laundry room to do wash, but you might need coin change
4: depending where you are and how much you want to spend.....
-ketchikan....glacier flight....or see if they have any walking tours of a glacier
-juneau....well there was'nt much to do, but we love the red dog saloon and hike up to mendenhall glacier.....you'll be able to touch it
-skagway....do the train to the yukon border....great scenery
-sitka....walk around town and visit the historic russian buildings and church......plus see the totem poles
5: it's always cheaper to book tours off the ship
6: when i did my last cruise to alaska....we went in june......beautiful and warm in port (if sunny), but was bitterly cold when at sea and in the inside passage due to the wind....for sure take a good rain and windbreaker with you plus a sweater for walking around deck or in port if overcast or raining.
7: one more thing.....keep your fingers crossed for cloudy days when sailing past ice chunks or up to glacier's.....they are so blue when the sun isn't reflecting the light out.....have fun......jeff

Elizabeth you are verry welcome to ask this question. Great ship great Destiny.

Jeff said it almost all. last year a/b the Volendam sister Zaandam there was a Captains welcome, and the captain was there to meet the passengers but you are not aloud to shake hands with the Captain this fore safety of the Captain (norovirus)

You are not aloud to where jeans/shorts in the Rotterdam Dinning room at dinner and in the Pinnacle Grill.
Rotterdam dinning breakfest, lunch you are aloud to where jeans but no shorts. The lido you cane dress as you like. It's forbidden to walk in swimming dress ore bathrob throug the passenger lounges. Fore the rest you are free to do what you like to do a/b fantastic Volendam. Have a great time a/b Volendam to Alaska Bon Voyage.

We dith not take tours iff you make a call to Skagway go to the local historic museum small buth quite nice.

Greetings Ben.
