During my most recent visit to Hong Kong, while aboard ship, I was awoken in the morning to the sounds of construction. After realizing that I was indeed aboard a ship and not in a hotel undergoing renovation, I had to find out what this noise was about.
I opened my cabin door and peeked out into the passageway and I heard that this noise was coming from a few cabins down from mine. Back inside I went to take a shower and then off to inspect this commotion. By the time I finished showering the noise had stopped, but this did not deter me from finding out what it was. I walked down to the cabin from where I thought the noise was coming from and found a cabin door slightly ajar. Being the curious sort that I am, it took very little effort to find that the door would open further. I peeked in and said to myself, "Ok, this is a Kodak moment."Ran back to my cabin to grab my camera and go back before the workers return.
It seems that 2 cabins are being reconfigured into a suite. A bulkhead has apparently been removed and a bathroom gutted. In itself this is nothing uncommon, but it is not very often we get to see this sort of work in progress. Therefore I wanted to share this photo with all of you.

Joe, I did not enter this cabin to check out the materials being used, as the entry was a mess.

They're using marinite.

If they want a plaster type look, drywall may be the best choice. On QM2 they have 'real' plaster in places and it must meet SOLAS 2010 standards.

That`s not what I mean (as said I guess it is Radisson Diamond) it is more the 'atmosphere' of the room. (...last time I saw her, she looked like that on the inside...)

Since ships move and twist, I thought that drywall or plaster might not work so well. Maybe the newer ships (...although this doesn't seem to be one of them) don't do so.
The construction is for one of a few new 486sq.ft suites to be called Asia Star Suites. The suite in the photo is located on Deck 7 midship.
