HELLO ALL!

After a 31-nights cruise to patagonia in Costa Romantica ended last sunday (March 5th) i'm here back in CT. Costa Romantica is a lovely ship, with a right size for me, not too small, not too big, and with some very cousy places. The itinerary contributes for the excellent cruise, with stops at Rio, Santos, Buenos Aires, Montevideo (Uruguai), Puerto Madryn (Argentina), navigation trough Beagle Channel with a stop to ride in the ship's tenders, Punta Arenas (Chile), Ushuaia (Argentina), Falkland Islands (UK), Punta De Leste (Uruguai) and Portobelo (Brazil). If you note, this is an 22-nights cruise, but my dad decided to extend more 9-nights with the Carnival cruise (Mardi Grass) that went to Buenos Aires with overnight there.

It was my first time in "Tierra Del Fuego", so i really enjoyed, wich many places to discover, this is an excellent cruise for any kind of person. The temperayure was very good too, never came below 0 degrees Celsius, but it was the summer. My mom already had went 5 times before and my father one, but in other ages, the ages of the Federico C, Enrico C and Eugenio C, but she said me that nothing has changed, just a little less snow and ice (too hot because BUSH!).

In this cruise we met several ships, like: HAL's Rotterdam, Celebrity's Constellation, Phoenix Reisen's Albatros, Orient Line's Marco Polo and many others. In a night during the navigation in "Rio De La Plata" (Silver River), the Norwegian Crown passed trough us but no blst was made it, so i did not have my camera on hand, and he passed only a few meters of distance, no more than 10 meters, it was very cool!

In the overall aspects the cruise was great, the food was very good with many varieties, the entertainment was OK, nothing like Las Vegas, but is an "Italian" ship after all. The service was superb, i never saw something like that, the waiters were always smiling and ready to chat with you, even when the bar was full or the restaurant, they always talked with the passegers or at least "Good Evening sir, how you are doing? Are you enjoing your meal? Do you need an assistance?". I felt i was on a premium brand cruise line! And one of the most important things, the sea and weather were perfect, no waves, no winds and no rain! In south atlantic waters like in the proximities of Cape Horn there's the fame of bad weater, but during all the cruise we felt that we were cruising in a lake.

The passengers, specially the frech, weren't polite and the poor crew had to listen their unfunded claims. The french were in a group called Taitboat and they found that they were the owners of the ship, always pushing and crying out with the other passengers and the crew, i really didn't like their attitude!

I take more than 600 pictures of the ship and the others ships that we encountered, but when i was uploading the first ones, i gave up of upload all the pictures, so i will make a selection of the best of the best and make new albuns. It takes too much time to upload a single picture! I completed 2 albuns of the Costa Romantica, but the quality isn't very good because i had to reduce the pixel quality to upload a little bit faster, so i'm sorry for the not very good quality of the pictures. Soon i will publish some good ones of the others ships!

I hope you all enjoy!

Hi ItalianLiners, Welcome back ! I was wondering of you have any pictures of ms Rotterdam. If so, I really would like to have them!! I have sent you a private message, hope you'll respond.

Thanks in advance!

PS Tendering in Beagle Channel, didn't you have rough weather circumstances ?!

Do you know by any chance which pilots you had onboard?

Hi ItalianLiners,

When I saw the Costa Marina(or Costa Allegra)'s webcam few years ago. She made a brief call between Punta Arenas and Ushuaia, She seemed to stop at Seno Agostini to visit Glacier(but not in the Beagle Channel) and stayed overnight at Seno Garibaldi(Beagle Channel).

How many days have you been on the Costa Romantica from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas?

31 nights Italianliners, you are lucky!! It sounds fantastic and the photos are superb. I very much look forward to seeing more when you have the time. I have only seen Costa Romantica at anchor and she did look nice. This is my favourite photo in your albums so far, wonderful:-

Very nice pictures. She looks more elegant than some 'luxury' ships. Also, this itinerary has a very high priority in my wishlist!

P.S.: The reason for the climate change is a bit more complicated. The climatic change is not only cause by humans (nevertheless I seems to be quite clear that humans cause a relevant part - probabaly a big part of it 'Is caused by humans) and certainly not only by the U.S.. Europe is doing a bit better, bt not too much - of course the U.S. should do more. I do not agree with the politics of the present president - but I guess you can´t blame him for that.

Now the COSTA CLASSICA has tasteful "Italian" interiors. The Farcus-crap is "American"with Italian names....

How does Carnival even market the different ships - Pre Carnival and post Carnival. They tend to attract different crowds....

Great pictures Italianliners!

VEry interesting, great pictures, thanks Italian Liners !
They make me long to sail on the C.Romantica. (The name is not up to the pictures...)

The dining room is perhaps a bit of a disappointment.

A 31 day voyage to Cape Horn must be an immenely interesting and pleasing voyage !

To Rob Holland:

I'm sorry, i writed wrong, i did not tendered in beagle channel, it was a ride with a "catamaran" (double hull boat) with was part of an excursion trough Beagle Channel National Park. The weahter was ok in the beggining, but later started to rain, but very quicly stopped, no big waves at all. I will answer you message, and send you what you ask, and i don't know the names of the pilots, only the Captain which was Ignazio Giardina and the First Deck Officer (he piloted the tenders sometimes) Giovani Magistro, very good people.

To Ocean Liners:

I'm got confused Ocean Liners and wrighted the wrong thing. The excursion trough beagle channel was in a catamaran (how you read up here), and the tender ride was in Seno Garibaldi as you said, with a briefly stop to watch animals and the landscape. The Costa Romantica had two days and two nighst of navigation trough the channel and the galciers from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia but as you supose to know she sailed in speed of aproximately 10 knots.

Soon i will upload more photos!

Thank You all,

Italianliners.

To Johan:

Unfortunately she did not passed in the Cape Horn because she sailed trough the channels, i'm sorry that i don't remenber the correct names of them.

To Ernst:

I know that isn't only the pollution problems that make the ice vanish, but i like to criticize Bush. I really don't like him.

It was a great voyage, my dad already booked the same cruise to next year in the same 1104 cabin!

I also do not agree with the politics of President Bush - but it does not help to blame him for everything.

Looking forward to see more pictures and read a more extensive review!

Costa Romantica has some of the best interiors of any modern cruise ship. They seem to be descendent of the Pulitzer/Zoncada ships of the mid 20th Century.

Italianliners, I took an instant dislike to George Bush: It saves time.

Nice picture - she really seems to be a very nice ship - they only should not put this garland in the lobby.

Agreed. It takes away from the minimalist design of the lobby.

All is all, a FABULOUS looking vessel. Thank you so much for the photos. Frankly I don't think we have seen anything as original in interior design as COSTA ROMANTICA and CLASSICA in a very long time. They were far to austere for most Americans when they made their initial debut, but now I think they would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply, Whist I was watching Costa webcam few years ago, Costa ship did sail into Seno Agostini where is renowned for its beauty, most cruise ships did not enter the Seno Agostini except excursion boats from Punta Arenas, Seno Agostini lies near Mt. Sarmiento, then ship went back to Canal Magdalena towards to Beagle Channel.
Princess, HAL or others had passed through Canal Magdalena in the night but Costa departed Punta Arenas in the morning and arrived Seno Garibaldi in the afternoon. the Ship stayed there for overnight.
The ship departed there in the next morning to visit Glaciers(Italia, Francia, Alemania, Romanche glciers) and arrived Ushuaia in the afternoon.

I think she is a lovely looking ship - and I have always liked the upright funnel trio. But why do Costa use such stupid names - Costa Fortuna being particularly hilarious if you're English. Why not Costa Brava, Costa Dorada, Costa Verde, Costa Blanca, Costa Smeralda and so on????

Mec pré Costa Classica there ships where named after members of The Costa family. I heard that whene the Classica and Romantica where ordered Costa wants to mark theme as a new area fore Costa. Therfore the ships where not named annymore after Costa family members. Sad choise i like the old Cista names verry much.

Still i have 2 movies of here on my website. Showing the tender service between Costa Romantica and shore. With some impressif shots of the Costa Romantica. You cane find theme here. Scroll to the Costa Crociere part of the Film Page.

Greetings Ben.

Ben,
Actually when CLASSICA and ROMANTICA were introduced they were marketed under a new name called "Euroluxe Cruises" if I remember correctly. I still have the brochure somewhere. The name "Costa" was being disassociated all together as Costa was perceived as a more budget operation. It was a complete failure as the two ships were panned in the US and not considered luxury at all. They didn't last long here, and neither did Euroluxe Cruises.

Chandris went on to do the same concept with Celebrity Cruises, but with much better execution and less austere ships. Of course the Celebrity brand name is still around.
