A Gallows for public hangings. An Execution will take place daily after the belly-flop and bare-knuckle boxing competitions.

Joking aside, I think it is for keel-hauling staff who do not perform.

It's a high dive, it seems that as the ultimate form of publicity for all of the fantastic activities you can join in with, the 2008 Summer Olympics will be held onboard. The production schedule has been moved up for delivery a year early to accomidate.

Strange question...
I thought this was pretty obvious. How do you think the helmsman will steer the ship with?

Good try, but have you noticed the pool is more forward? I think Vaccaro is right.

it looks to me that a ship of that size would need a radar mast at the stern as well.....jeff

I don't know... RCI is having enough problems with passengers throwing themselves off without providing a more convenient method...

Looks like a high diving board if you ask me, perhaps RCCL newest gimmick, the first ever floating high diving board? (if it’s not then let it be noted that I came up with it today!)

I don't think so. Looking closely at the rendering, there are good reasons why it isn't.

1. the pool is more forward.
2. the high-diving tower would be best situated on the other side of the pool where it would be protected from wind.
3. the depth of the pool would have to be deeper, therefore
needing more room into the lower deck. The question is what is located in that deck below?

Anyway, it is good thought Onno.

It's a adjustable pole that can be set so the Dolphins can jump over. Maybe seals also. Or even Shammu. For the marine mammal show!!

A rotating machine gun. In case of wartime service, disguised as a diving board.
Just hope your not on it when they start it up.

At SeaTrade I specifically met with P.R. reps from Aker Finnyards to ask about this object or device. They both asked me why I wanted to know, and I said that a number of us ship buffs were simply speculating about it. Their answer to me: "Well, you'll just have to speculate for 3 more years about it."

I'm sure neither of them knew what it was, and since Aker didn't have any technical people at their booth, as did all the other shipyards, there was no one who could give me a straight answer about it.

I think quite seriously that it is a high-diving board and there is a deep pool in that low stern protion of the ship
