With the sudden interest in ships lying over, You may be interested of when the Cunarder 'Ivernia" on her normal run to Canada from Southampton, called into Le Harve and then Cobh (Cork ) Ireland.
Arrived late afternoon and as was normal practice anchored out to pick up passengers and cargo, by late afternoon we were getting ready to sail and first sitting for dinner was also getting ready, I was a Baker, and the bakery was on the deck below the main galley and resturants, The ship had started on her way to Quebec and everthing seemed normal, the stewards were queueing up with there first orders in the galley, when,a flustered deckhand ran in and yelled to batten every thing down quickly as " we are turning around to go back to Cobh" .. But he was too late as we felt the ship heal over, things started to fly around, hitting the deck with a loud noise, our egg custards for the evening meal poured out of there containers, only to burn on the oven floor, above us in the galley we could hear trays, utensils, pots and bowls clattering around with smashed crockery plus the large soup pots poured out all over the galley deck (floor ). When we staightened up I went up to the galley to see what we were going to do for the evening meal, only to be confronted by stewards, with torn jackets or covered in food, mess every where, plus they where comforting a young lad, a passenger who's chair had not be locked to the deck, and as the ship rolled he actually sailed out of the resturant still seated in his chair into the galley only to be saved by a steward, he was not hurt which was amazing.
The reason for the dramatic turn and dash back to Cobh was one of our deckhands whilst battening down a hatch on deck as we sailed away from Cobh, had fallen down into the hatch broken several bones, concusion etc etc and needed attention rapidly, I believe he had life threatening injuries but never her if he survived or not..
Thought you may find this interesting. B

Great stuff.. was this when she lost all power to the engines for a few [4+] hours? or another crossing?
1 deg to straighten the horizon and 13.5 to put her upright. Some crossing HALover

Good to see you around Baker Excellent story. How long did it take to clear the mess up? I don't suppose the pax were too worried about having much to eat after that!
