As I am sure many of you know I love the Marco Polo and there is a terrific deal on her in early April - fly to Montego Bay, recovery night in hotel and then about three weeks on baord transatlantic for about £1500/ E 2000/ $2000 - I think it is terrific value and wondered if anyone else might consider it???? She is a pretty, compact, sheered, old ship with delightful crew, terrifici food and good entertainment.... a classic liner doing a classic liner voyage.

Mike,
It sounds like a great deal on a wonderful ship. I wish I could go with you. I just started a new job last Monday, so unfortunately my time off is going to be limited for a while.

I hope you get to go!

Ernie

I'm afraid it looks like history for me and Delta. I just don't have the confidence that Delta will survive in the long run, and regardless I felt it was time to move on. The job is no longer exciting and challenging for me, and I don't enjoy being away from home so much. I used to love it, but as you get older your priorities really change. The last five years at Delta have been filled with unknowns, and frankly I'm tired of living my life based on what Delta's next move will be.

The hardest part of the new job for me will be working five days a week, 9-5:30pm (mon-fri). It's been many years since I've done that, and at Delta I would usually not work more that 12 days a month. None the less, it's exciting starting a new job at a great company (and a stable one too!). I won't mind the five day work week so long as I feel challenged and enjoy the job.

Thanks for asking.

Ernie

ps - all ties will Delta are not severed. I took a package where I will retain all my free flight pass benefits (for Christopffre and my mom too) for the next five years. I've also been vested for some retirement benefits provided Delta is around that long!

That will come a big shock to you. It will feel like you are ALWAYS at work!

Actually, I felt that way at Delta even working only 12 days. The difference is that I was away from home that entire 12 days, spending nights at a hotel. I will enjoy sleeping in my own bed each night. I will still have a pretty good amount of time off at my new job (they are quite generous in this regard) and travel will continue to be a big part of my life.

Ernie,

I'm sorry to hear that you have left Delta. I live in Atlanta and grew up as a Delta "brat". My father still works for the airline. I'm afraid that your assessment of their long-term survival may be correct. Delta is not the same airline today as it was twenty years ago. I live in Atlanta (Inman Park) and I am looking for a new career. I have been doing the same thing now for twelve years and I need a change. If you don't mind me asking, what career direction have you taken? It's nice that you still have flight benefits for a while. I have not used my benefits for years since I am basically a buddy-pass at this point. Good luck with your new job.

My daughter who is sitting here as I read this, and is also an airline worker knows exactly how you feel.

She says that it will no doubt be some culture shock you are in for - but as you have taken travel facilities with you - then the best ofl luck - but don't let anything stop you cruising.

Best of luck Ernie
