Anyone can give me any information about the ship Mona Lisa (Holiday Kreuzfahrten) as I am supposed to start working there next month?
Is it really that bad and old like you said?
Do you know crew members were happy with their living and working on board Mona Lisa?
Thank you...

She is old - but nobody here said that she is bad - I may say 'we' all here love her as she is a rare classic and an truly exceptional ship. When she was new she was the very best - it might be that she is now not operated to the highest standards and that it is not so nice for the crew compared to a new ship - but she certainly stands out - I would be happy to be aboard her and accept some disadvantages.

I think that size of ship (around 30,000 gross tons) is perfect from a passenger point of view, anyway.

Hi there

I worked on her when she was still with Princess as Sea Princess, obviously that was a few years ago but she is a beautiful ship with excellent sea keeping qualities (we went through 3 cyclones on her, bumpy but no problem) and was hugely elegant. Granted even then the crew accom. was nothing to write home about but perhaps there has been some updating, however I will remember her as without any doubt the friendliest and most fun ship I have ever served on, I spent 2 years there and would happily have spent another 2 or 3 - indeed much better than the new Princess ships I worked on thereafter.

No I have sadly not been aboard.
She is nevertheless an outstanding ship which one has to know being interested in ships.

>>that I am worried about right now is my german..<<

The ship has wood panelling all over even in almost all cabins. Yes, the clientele will expect some German as they will be mostly elderly.
But there are a few phrases that you would use as cabin steward, for instance:
Guten Morgen (good morning)
Guten Tag (Good day, appropriate 11 to 18 o'cock)
Guten Abend (Good evening)
Gute Nacht (good night)
Entschuldigung! (excuse me, also used if someone stands in the way)
Wie geht es Ihnen? (how are you doing?)
Gut, danke! Und Ihnen? (Good, thanks! Are you also fine? Answer to the above question)
Kabinen-Steward! Kann ich hereinkommen? (Cabin Steward, can I come in?)
Ich komme spaeter wieder (I come again later)
Bitte! (Please!)
But don't ask me to tell you how to pronounce etc. this or how the german has to sound in english spelling. As a German I am no good at this!

I have been aboard only once in 2003, and this ship is like no other interiorwise with all the wood panelling. She is the last of her kind! Enjoy it! She comes from the age of Transatlantic liner service.

crew member we all wish you the very best. I am sure you will enjoy Mona Lisa. German is fairly easy to pick up, as far as languages go. Easier to understand than perhaps speak back. Please let us know how you get on, we would love to know

I was in Holiday in Hungary in 1984, at the Lake Balaton, in Siofok, Hotel Hungaria.

A lot of Hungarians speak German very well and the other learn it quick.

It is more difficult for us, to learn some Hungarian, i never learned it.

I think, the language will not be an Problem.

On the other Hand, Mona Lisa is the Ship of Holiday Kreuzfahrten in Germany. Some Comments are not the best in our Cruisegoer Magazine "An Bord".

Holiday has now an second Ship, the Lili Marleen.

With this Ship they offer Horror-Cruising at their maiden Cruise to Madeira on Sylvester and from Genova to the Caribbean.

It is the worst, i read since Years.

So it is possible, Passengers are angry because they get an lousy Product for their Money, not because the get an Hungarian Stewardess.

This will be no Problem.
