I am surprised at the prices of these cruises, considering Saga is meant to save money. Does anyone know why Rose is registered in the Bahamas and Ruby in the UK? They'll be off on their world cruises later tonight with fireworks, according the my dad's brochure (he can dream of that lottery win, but would prefer to pay less and not be around old people even though he'll be 65 this year! LOL!). Not going to get any pics from the marina since they either come out completely rubbish or not at all so will just film it.

LOL! Could be.

It is freezing out there today with a very biting wind. Not looking forward to sitting down the marina for the sailing tonight but will put on about 50 layers and hope I keep warm.

I see you're in Barbados, cruiseshipluver. I envy you. It is like minus a zillion out there tonight with that wind. Didn't help the ships left late (Saga Rose was meant to be 9pm and Ruby at 9.15).

Does the Saga Ruby usually go slower than a snail? And make that dreadful racket? A tug appeared and stayed behind it. Another cancelled world cruise this year? Anyone see the fireworks? They were lovely. And the ships side by side too blasting at each other. Those 2 bits were worth the pneumonia I'll probably have in the morning.

Hi Patsy, hope you've had a good new year, and lets hope last nights fireworks will be the last we'll hear for a while!!
I've never known so many go off during the New Year period before!

Anyway, it was a good display last night.

The reason Saga Ruby was so slow, she was trying to get one of the lifeboats back onboard (I assume they were using it to take photos of the 2 old girls about to depart on their global voyages).
When they realised the tide was against them, they enlisted the help of tug "Redbridge".
They then dediced it was easier for the vessel to be alongisde they proceeded down to Fawley, turned around, came back up to 38/9, got the lifeboat back onboard and finally set sail!

What a polava!

Good to see the ships returning home before embarking on their World Cruises, lets hope Aurora doesn't hit the headlines as no doubt the press are on alert that she's back on the 8th!

Andrew

Newer ships attract younger people and often have fares that are cheaper than Saga.

Thanks, Andrew. We guessed when Rose was late sailing something was going on with Ruby. Glad to hear it was nothing more than lifeboat trouble. Though it would have been funny if I'd woken up and seen on Ceefax about her returning like Aurora's troubles last year. I didn't know Ruby came back. That seems very sensible. I was too frozen to do anything when I got home last night. We were the only idiots down the marina to watch the sailing. Got a digital camera today and could have done with it last night. Though my fingers were too numb to do anything either. Hard enough holding t he camcorder and trying not to shiver. LOL!

Malcolm, given a choice of Saga and their expensive fares or some other brand, my dad would definitely choose another brand. Well if he wasn't a poor pensioner. LOL! When we were at Town Quay yesterday, this elderly man asked if I'd ever been on one of the Sagas. I thought, you cheeky bugger! Turns out he hadn't realised you have to be 40 to be a companion.

cruiseshipluver, how do they like people emigrating there?
